how to create this look?!

yall don't know how badly i want a fluffy afro like this. i think they look so cool and boheme and badass but i can't figure out how to get one!

my twist/braidouts hang down rather than up flat twistouts give me lots of volume, but my hair sticks straight out from my head and i like how their hair seems to shape around their faces. i just look like buckwheat maybe i could pin down the sides...

i was able to get a nice twistout once but it didn't give me that rounded afro look, but it did stand up! unfortunately i can't remember what i used or how i did it

i was also thinking maybe i can stretch a wash n go with my blowdryer? seems worth trying.

do you wear your hair like this? or know how to get it like this? please share!

I've never tried a chunk twistout either. I never felt as though my hair was long enough for bigger sections of hair to stay put. I'll have to try this. Thanks!

I also twist underhanded instead of over, so that probably has something to do with it. Now I have to re-learn how to twist. My hair is also nowhere as thick as Mae's, but maybe I can twist with some fabric or something.

Have you ever tried doing a wash and go and then fingercombing with some thick leave in to sort of shape it? My hair does like yours, it sticks up but if I come out the shower it'll hang down, then I can kind of manipulate it.

I do a twist out on 80% dry hair to get this look. Using the Shea moisture creamy moisturizer (can't think of the name). Only thing is, in a humid climate it will swell!

Make twists going down the middle, like a mohawk. Then twist the sides and back. Using an afro pick at the roots will also give more volume.

What about doing a wash n go and then diffusing your hair when it is 75% dry that way you can get the crown area to "stand up" I do this from time to time when I want more volume in my hair. You can then blow dry it slightly with a comb to stretch your hair out as needed.

My hair will go that way on it's own if my braids or twists are not completely dry when I take them out. A tiny bit of dampness plus FL humidity will create a rounded fro within an hour.

robot. - Take the front/top area of your hair into one section and twist it forward where the twist will lay in front of your forehead. Then put that twist into a bantu knot or flexirod.

If don't want the middle part, don't part down the middle.

Maybe you could do a normal twistout and while still in twists pineapple the ones up top and leave a few out on the sides so you can frame your face, then untwist once they are set. You will definitely have to separate your twists more so than normal.

I love this look!!! My twist outs rarely look like this, but I'm going to try some of the suggestions in this thread next time. My thing is, I have layers, so the back always hangs lower than the front and makes an odd shape.

my bantu knot out on blow dried hair was a fail. did some sloppy flat twists so we'll see how that looks in the morning.

i think a chunky twistout is what i need, although my hair won't stay in huge twists.
