I've always done my 2 daughters' micros myself. I saved a ton of money!

Now that they are both grown-up, they do it themselves if they want them. I taught them how!

Hi... I'm a newbie, but I've been lurking this forum a long time... mainly because every time I did a google about hair this forum had the answer:grin:.

I live in Akron, Ohio about 30 minutes from Cleveland and I usually pay around $200 just for the micro braids and the hair (I need 2 packs) is around $80 a pack. So I spend money on micros, but its not a lot of people who do a good job on them between Akron and Cleveland. I have learned the hard way that if the micro-braids aren't done right, your hair is going to come out. The girl who does my hair is African and she lays them out. Matter of fact, I'm getting them done on the 15th of this month... I'll post pics.

I do them myself so I just pay for the hair. If I use the cheap synthetic hair which is the kanekalon I pay 2.00 for about 3 packs depending on the size I make them and if I get human I pay 20 a pack so normally 40 bucks.

I just cant see myself paying someone so much money to do my braids when I can do them myself

O and no shade thown on anyone who does :)

My cousin does them but I'm not sure of what she charges. She does my kinky twists. She's been doing her sis micro's for years now and her hair is thick and looks good, no thin edges, etc. I'm considering having her put some in my head but I get so scared of the stories about thin edges but if I use her sister's hair as comparison, I think I'm in good hands. She claims she doesn't braid as tight as the African shops.

For those that haven't experienced thin edges, what do you think helped to keep your edges from thinning?

For those that have experienced damage, what do you think caused it?

I only wore high pony tails when i went to the gym. (or wanted to look casually sexy) I didn't do that often.

I never experienced damage...i just made sure my scalp was moisturized and sprayed a leave in conditioner/ moisturizer throughout my hair and was good to go.

Micro braids $180 +
human hair braids (often confused with mirco braids) $100-120
