How Many of You Own Steamer Machines?

I am thinking of purchasing one for the sole purpose of saturating my hair with moisturizer and essential oil sprays. Dou you find that your hair looks and feels better and has gotten thicker and longer as a result? I realize they can be expensive but I would be willing to invest in one if it were truly worth it. TFR Bonjour

I don't but I found one online for $180 and I plan on getting it sometimes in the near future. I hope I can find one for cheaper. I'll probably use it for weekly conditioner treatments and it'll be the ONLY form of heat that'll use on my hair.

I don't own one (yet!) and have never had a salon steam treatment but last week I treated myself to a spa visit for a facial & spent 30 mins in the steam room with my hair saturated with a mix of Redken butter treat, Keracare humecto & a few drops of lavendar eo...my hair has never felt more utterly delicious in my entire 48 years on this earth /images/graemlins/drunk.gif!!! I plan to budget for one as well.

Yeah...I want to know what is the difference between a steamer and a hooded dryer. Is it that the hooded dryer is using dry heat and the steamer is using moisture?

moist heat is beneficial in a lot of ways. Steam allows deeper penetration of conditioner or dye (why many mfg. encourage a warm towel or plastic cap for 15 minutes). Steam also softens hair & moisturizes the scalp. Diane da Costa writes a couple of paragrahs in Textured Tresses re: the benefits of what she calls the "Asian Creme Bath" and gives tips on how to do one at home although she says there is no substitute for a real salon steam treatment.

Thanks gogo.

I go to the sauna sometimes to deep condition, so I'll try to do it regularly and see if it really makes a difference.

PM CCD for ordering info from beautybeautyusa.com, they have a table top version for 78. I bought mine in person at the store in china twon so I have no idea how to order it off the net.

Ordered my steamer today from NY (www.beautybeautyusa.com). Should be here next Friday or the following Monday. There aren't very many salons (none that I know of here in San Diego that do steam treatments to hair).

I'm hoping this will make my natural hair less prone to frizziness and better conditioned. Right now I'm very discouraged w/the 'shrink & frizz factor'. :(

They don't have any prices listed on that site :ohwell:

On the home page you have to scroll down to the price list to get the prices of different models.

Lanecia, girl let us know which model you chose and how you like it.

Hey ladies!

@classimami713: I didn't see the prices listed either but I called the number listed on their website and asked specifically about the table top model. It's mentioned in an older thread, I believe CCD was the one who said she'd gotten the table top model as well. Unfortunately, I did not get the model number when I ordered it but the price was still $78.00, $10 for shipping and with tax it came to at about $94 and some change.

@brickhouse: as soon as the steamer gets here, I plan to break it out and steam away! I'll be sure to post the model info as well as my likes/disklikes for it.

@CCD: YOU inspired me to get it!! I kept reading your posts, and rereading them and reading them again! I'll be sure to update next weekend after the first treatment. My son who has very dry hair wants to try it too!

Awww! that's great! I definitely wanna know your results!

Thanks LaNecia and Brickhouse. :)

I really want a steamer, but I need some more feedback before I even think about getting one. . .Or maybe, I should just go to the salon, and get a treatment and see what the difference is between a steamer and a dryer.

There is an obvious difference. I am yet to reproduce the effect a steamer gave my hair when my old hairdresser religiously used it on me.

Hey, just wanted to report in that my hair steamer just arrived  (too bad I'm at work! I can only sit here and look at it! ).

The Model Number is LR-08, it is not shown on their website. It's actually a bit smaller than my ION Hood dryer, rather light also. The rated voltage is: 110 V; Rated Frequency: 60 Hz, Rated Power: 300W; Weight: 2.62 kg.

I'm excited though I won't treat my hair until Sunday (useless to do it tonight, I'm taking a spinning class tomorrow morning and weight training again in the evening). I'll also follow up w/a photo so ya'll can see what it looks like.

I will report back the results on Sunday!

Follow-up:

I'm happy w/the Steamer! I used it in conjunction w/my NTM Hair Mask and Humecto combo (much better!). My hair is very hydrated. I've used it twice, alternating weeks. This is a staple in my regimen now.

I promised a photo of the steamer so here it is:

Why did this thread start? ! You all are about to make me loose my money, now I want one. I hope this will help to improve with deep conditioning and detangling with my transitioning hair.

I'm so happy you are pleased with your results!!!!..Nice combo of products!..I ususally use my 11en1 or Alterego Garlic treat.....
Take care & I'm glad you like it...I love mine...

( tip...if you are an "at home, do it ur selfer" like me, you can take the steam maker part of the steamer , inother words remove the hood and take the steam appartus only and use is as a facial steamer....its like one that sprays up and out into the face, but please use CAUTION...don't get very close cause the steam, it is strong and goes a distance straight out....I've use it like this several times and love the results, just a stronger steam than my "regular facial steamer"...the one up dip your face into)
anyway, take care :)

My hairdresser using a warm damp towel around my plastic cap to help with moisturizing my hair. You should try this first before you purchase. Her way is much cheaper and you get the same results. :look:

Does she sit you under a hood dryer? Also how long do you leave the towel on?
