I certainly experience excessive shedding. I do believe it is a fine line between stretching and compromising the fullness of hair. I tried to stetch longer than 22wks because I was actually considering transitioning, but decided to get texlaxed. My hair doesn't feel a full as usual. I'm going to try the Alter Ego Products this time.

I used to have the same problem, the solution? MOISTURE!!!!! lots and lots of it especially on the ng, I used Dr Miracles braid spray on my ng (cos that what I had lying around...) and it solved the issue completely. Currently 20 wks post, lots of ng and little breakage!

Amen sista! I am 2+months post (transitioning) and moisture is KEY!!!
And no...it is not easier for texlax to transition to natural.:lachen:
There is still a demarcation line and my NG feels like a totally different texture than my texlaxed hair (im texlaxed 60%).

oh MY GOODNESS your hair is AMAZING!!!!! do you have Indian in your family??

yes, im a newbie, but i have yet to see a picture of a shinier, healthier mane!

your length comes 2nd to the healthy appearance!

i aspire to be there someday. After seeing your photo I'M NEVER CUTTING MY HAIR AGAIN!

ok OP i love you, i know this thread has been up for a while but i really thought that i really was the only one with this problem. I have been stretching and not using any type of heat besides a heating cap for my dc's and using a growth serum, my hair is in shambles. I think i am one of those people that really cant stretch for longer than 6 weeks because i have straight relaxed hair and im starting to think i have 4c hair if that even exists. My ng is never really tangled but when i comb or brush or finger comb my hair my hair breaks like crazy at the decremation line. especially at the crown where my ng is really really thick. its either i use the heat or the relaxer... ugh, this is really hard.

thnx OP for posting this question! my hair alway snaps at the roots at the 4th-5th week post relaxer.

good to hear i don't have to relax and moisturizing is the other option.

hopefully this will keep my edges from looking like Ceily's from the color purple.

i've been chi'ing them in the past.

I'll try anything once. :drunk:

I am stretching right now, and I lose less hair stretching, than I did when I was relaxed. The hair that comes out now is just half or less than half of what I lost when my hair was freshly relaxed. I have to say I am pretty satisfied with my stretch. The knots do annoy me, but they are very few, and just knots up at the line of demarcation. The rest of my hair where I have a lot of new growth hardly knots.

I have a few relaxed strands that I want to go away quickly because I want to see more of my natural hair. I am doing all I can to extend this stetch, and I keep visiting this forum for helpful tips on how to manage. You guys are very helpful!!!:yep:

I totally agree with you. I stretched 20 wks last year and my hair seemed much thinner and lost it's fullness. That's when I threw the towel in on long stretches. It's now back to 12-13 wks.

:Blush2:Thanks so much! My maternal great-grandfather and paternal great- grandmother are, but I don't know the percentage. I'm glad that you're inspired to let your hair grow to be as long and as beautiful as possible:)

this last time i did. i stretch for 5-6 months. I was washing my hair in the tub, and got a lot of tangles. When i combed it out i lost a lot of hair :(

Ok, well, my next question. What is the point in relaxing if the hair is always kept bunned up? I personally relax so that I can wear my hair, but keeping it bunned up seems to defeat the purpose of being able to wear the hair and utilize the length of it.

Well, I'll be. It's almost like waiting to get married by always being in the wedding or something like that. I agree, what's the point if you only wear your hair up and only flat iron it to check the length.

I tried to stretch last summer for 12 weeks and lost a lot of hair. My hair is still recovering from that damage. I relax every 8 weeks and will never stretch again.

I don't lose alot of hair due to stretching. THe problem I have with stretching is if I stretch for six months then thats about 3 inches of growth for me and b/c of all that hair my hair comes out underprocessed :(

I've never lost by stretching when doing my own hair. When I went to a stylist once while going 6 months w/o a relaxer then something she did made my hair break. With me doing my own hair I dont have breakage at all

Had a lot of breakage during my last stretch (16 wks) less now but still a little. Def. going to use more moisture thus time around.

My last stretch was my first time stretching. I went 9 and 1/2 weeks. at about 7 weeks it just seemed so horrible. Then I found and fell in love with Aubrey Oraganics Honey Suckle Rose Conditioner and my new growth was a different creature all together. I could not believe how easy detangling became with this conditioner. I then continued to moisturse my new growth with s-curl and castor oil and was like Yeah I'm Gonna Stretch 12 weeks!!! But then at 9 and 1/2 I was just dying to see how long my hair had gotten because it was too nappy to see the true length so I went ahead and relaxed. But, I'm definately going to go for 12 weeks this time.
