I was just wondering because lately I have had to relax at 5 week because my ng comes in wavy and once it gets to 1/2 inch it starts to loop and loop and cause a curl pattern that has my hair tangled... and then I have to wash every 2 days to keep it from breaking because it just tangles at the root where the loop and the two textures meet. Does anyone else have this same problem, and if you do how do you deal with it?:ohwell:

Very low manipulation (wearing buns daily/no combing)
Detangling with my hair loaded full of conditioner

I do which is why I don't stretch pass 10 weeks anymore. I loose so much hair my hair gets thin then I have to keep trimming. So, I've turn my focus on not gettting my strands over process because I'm not stretching. That works better for me.

No I don't lose any hair from stretching at all. I usually detangle every 3 days. I wonder what causes the tangles and the knots. How do you wash and condition? In sections?

I lost a TON of hair the first time I stretched. Now I use a lot of H2H Softening Blend on my hair every day especially on the ng, before I do my hair. That's helped ALOT, it makes my hair ridiculously soft. Also, Qhemet Biologics Cleansing Tea made my hair a lot stronger. Since I started using it, I get waaaaaay less breakage. I love it.

My hair starting breaking about three weeks ago. I thought it was because of the Aphogee protein treatment. But when I took a closer look I realized I had 1 1/2 inches of new growth and my hair was breaking at the new growth point. I wasn't stretching on purpose, I just lost track of when my last perm was. I'm perming tomorrow, but the damage has been done already. :nono:

I do notice once I get to 10wks post my hair begin to shed a little more then usual so I step up the moisture so that I can make it to 12wks. During the stretch I keep my hair in a bun so I attribute the shedding to the hair not being manipulated throughout the week..

I currently stretch to 12-13 weeks. Since I wash/detangle only once per week, I do have shedding. My hair is longer and thicker since I've been stretching, though, so I see the shedding as normal.

I lose alot thats why I can rarely can go past 8 weeks.

It stresses me out too much to see that much hair come out of my head

I have the same issue. My new growth wraps around the relaxed hair, which makes the demarcation line so much more weaker  This stretch was fine up until a few weeks ago. I think I may just go as far as 10-12 weeks from now on, to retain more hair.

i can't go passed 8 weeks unless i am in braids or a weave. it is too too much hair to deal with for me.

I tried to do 10 weeks and my hair started to break...8 is the max if i am bunning.

I lost tons of hair when I attempted to stretch, thats why I dont anymore.

For me and my hair its not worth it. :nono:

i have bee shedding alot. I am about 13 weeks and i don't know if i should just relax as i have so much shed hair it's not funny. My ends have actually dot thinner now. I last trimmed in June and sine then I have been sheeding non stop. I'm not happy may just relax although I ws goingto wait until october

I stretched for like 5 months and had major breakage. I won't do that again....:nono:

Now I go like 10 weeks and that's it.

I'm doing 8 weeks now and I have 3 weeks to go before my next relaxer. I have a lot of ng already at 5-6 weeks post relaxer. I don't notice too much hair loss just normal shedding so far and it's really not much. I don't know how it's going to be in a couple of weeks...lol. I try to keep my ng moisturized well and that helps a lot. I do scalp massages 3 days/nights per week and during that time I put moisturizer on my ng.

I simply cannot stretch. If I do not relax at 6 weeks, I would lose more hair than it's worth. My hair is so tight when it comes it:look: Myscalp also actually become sore. I can't take it. I must relax:ohwell:

I think the key to stretching relaxers without shedding for me was finding the right moisturizer for my hair.
I lost a lot of hair when I first started stretching since using BBD Stretch Creme,Sta So Fro and Kid's Organic Shea Butter Lotion I can now stretch 3 months without shedding issues.
Daily CO washes past 8 weeks helps a lot.

I know I sound like a broken record :) , but S-Curl is my product of choice. It keeps my waves and curls defined and tangle-free. I’m in my 14th and final week of a stretch and decided to sample a cream moisturizer. Huge mistake. My ends have been knotting and tangling for no good reason. When I wash it tonight, I’ll be sure to S-Curl the ends (I don’t like to apply it to my entire hair shaft before a retouch.) Sta-Sof-Fro works well, too.

I also keep my hair braided and bunned to keep it from tangling and my hands out of it. :o

Shedding and breakage is another reason I don't like to stretch my relaxers. My hair breaking because of the differences in textures. My hair shedding because it is growing like crazy. I'll try stretching but I usually get a relaxer before I get to that point.

No, i never loss alot of hair. At the beginning of my journey i started stretching up til 12wks, towards the end of last year i jumped to 16wks. No ill effects whatsoever.

I use to stretch but not anymore. It's not worth it. I'd rather do a mild texlax every 6wks and retain my growth then wait for 3mnths and lose all I gained.

I just relaxed 5 weeks ago (virgin), so I'm hoping to avoid breakage. As of now I'm cowashing daily, bunning and baggying (whole head last few nights). I'm also using MT so I haven't been doing any other protein. What balance am I aiming for to protect my line of demarcation? Will the daily cowashing prevent the tangling? AT some time will I have to give up my Megassaging??

I Used to Stretch atleast 11wks not anymore, I Loose to much hair not worth it

I thought I was the only one loosing hair, trying to stretch.

So you do every 6 wks huh. I started to go back to doing this, but it seems so taboo to relax that often nowadays. I want to do it too.

What type is your hair if you don't mind me asking? What do you use to keep your newgrowth from wreaking havoc?

I am having the two bolded issues. I am at five weeks now and my roots are a hot mess. Nothing shy of a pressing comb will help them and my hair is breaking in the crown due to it. i mean, I am forming a patch of shor hairs from the last few stretches. I have been going to 8 or 10 weeks and overall, I don't think it was worth it. imma relax my hair within the week.

I agree with bunning and cowashing as great protective measures. But it seems like to get your hair to grow you have to do so much. It becomes like a job. I remember back in the day, healthy hair wasn't even an issue. Everybody had long hair and did nothing extra to get it. grease, water, and a pressing comb was all that was necessary. what has changed? can ya' tell I'm getting a little frustrated with the growth process? I am so tempted to just get a cute short cut.
