I guess I'll start :grin:

I've wanted long hair ever since I was like, 5! I call it the "Barbie/Princess Complex" because I LOVED to play with and brush my Barbie's long hair, and in the movies that I watched the beautiful princesses always had long, flowy locks. The fascination with long hair still hasn't gone away, there is just something so feminine about it! Anyway, I'm so thankful for this thread and I feel like I am now equipped with the knowledge I need to make it to waist length!!
 
I used to put a blanket or towel over my head and pretend it was hair just for the feel of having hair that was loose! my sister did it too, then my daughter too. Its like we all had the genes to do that or somethin! lol

Lol me too!! I used fake wigs as well when I would play dress up
 
I guess ever since I was real lil' (old enough to acknowledge hair), but I guess I always thought it was impossible because I was 'black' :look:...:nono:.
I only started getting serious about trying to grow my hair long since April this year.
 
since childhood...i've grown out of it when i was going through a i want short hair today and long tommorow and short again the following day. now i am on a sincere quest for long healthy hair. i wanted it so bad that i have long hair wet dreams.:gorgeous: i'm going to have long hair one day!
 
As far back as my memory goes....... I used to wish, pray and dream (literally) of having long hair. Going to elementary school with nothing but white people didn't help. And neither did Disney movies :ohwell:

There was a time when I was so screwed up in the head, I wanted to be white. I hated myself for not having long, flowy hair. It took me a long time to get over that and accept my hair as it is
 
Since I was a lil' girl putting multiple stockings on my head so I could braid it or wear it loose down my back...

Wow, you sound so much like me it's not even funny! I used to watch Disney movies all the time and dress up like the princesses but had to wear wigs to look more like them lol. I've been around primarily white people all my life, even to the point that I have been ridiculed by other blacks for talking and acting too "white". I really feel you on the wishing you were white part too. It's really hard to admit, but sometimes I still have issues with self esteem and trying to embrace my uniqueness as being beautiful, and often I still don't feel beautiful :ohwell: but hopefully that will change with time. I just need to be stronger, but the media can really mess with your mind, ya know? especially when you're soaking all of that in at such a young age!
 
I've always wanted long hair too, from as far back as I can remember. Its interesting that you mention Barbie, because l had them too. All Barbies had long hair (at that time) and Barbie was representative of the pinnacle of beauty. I had black & white Barbies, they hall had waistlength hair! So maybe that has something to do with it.

I did the same thing. I wanted white ppl hair too when I was going up. But know that Im older I'm glad I go my 3b/3c hair. It curly fuller and thick. I dont like white ppl hair anymore it has no style no volume not nothing:lachen:
 
I've always wanted it and came close to my standard of having long hair but my issue was that when it was getting long enough to do that little "white girl flip", then i'd get irritated and agitated and cut it.

So although i want it, its challenging for me to not pick up the scissors. And after joining LHCF, i feel that having long hair wont be a nuisance like i thought it was before when it started creeping down my back.

So technically, I've wanted long, HEALTHY hair since the day I joined LHCF...LOL

I wanted long hair since I was little. I also remember putting towels and shirts on my head lol and putting it into a ponytail with a scrunchy, bow, or rubberband. I'd walk around the house like that -- maybe all day sometimes :spinning:.
 
For as long as I can rememer. My sister and I used to put turtlenecks on our heads and wear them as hair. But I never seriously thought about it as a possiblility cause I was black... and black girls can't have long hair :perplexed But I'm learning my lesson now... since starting my hair journey last year and now I know it can be a reality! So someday my daughter (don't have one yet) won't have to wear a shirt on her head to have beautiful long hair! :ohwell:
 
Actually, JUST recently, like last year! It's funny because I wanted long hair when I was younger and a child, then when I became a teen I battled wanting long and short hair. I gave in to short, and have always been obsessed with short hair. Although, I will always love short hair, I find that I am liking layered, wavy longer(not too long) hair, as I am getting older. So my longing for longer hair goes in and out!:look:

:grin: I used to do the same thing. My sis and I used sheets for (floor length hair:lachen:) and we also used t-shirts as well.
 
I never wanted long hair until I had short hair... high school years. I was always upset because my hair never looked good in high school. :(
 
I guess I've always wanted long hair but didn't think I could have it so didn't take my desire seriously. I did the t-shirt thing, too. I've only really wanted long hair since about the beginning of this year.
 
Recently, I suppose since I started my healthy journey. My hair was long as all the way til high school when I cut it. When I first found weave I was so amazed with being about to change my hair at the drop of a hat that I just didn't care if my hair was long. I cut BSL hair to my shoulder so I could wear short weave styles. I know:perplexed. But I was young.
 
Since I was little. I think it was when I saw Janet Jackson's video "Black Cat" and I was like WHOA!:grin:
 
LOL only for about a week :look: Right now its just because I'm at that in between stage and I just wish it'd grow back to SL again.
 
not really until after i went off to college. before that i was very into NOT growing my hair out, and that's a whole nother story. :lol: but finally i decided one day that i wanted long hair... but i was still relaxing, abusing heat daily and i had not only colored my hair but added a rinse on top of that. :nono: hmmmm wonder why my hair wasn't getting any longer... :rolleyes:

had i found this site first, i probably would've been able to grow long relaxed hair after getting rid of a few bad habits. but i found NP first so i went natural instead. :drunk: i do believe you can grow long hair with or without chemicals, just depending on what works best for you and with proper care. :yep: it was the excessive heat plus color on top of relaxing that prevented retention in my case.
