I'm trying to become more salon free, and would like to learn how this is done. Any Youtube vids or links?

Thank you ladies!

I think kimmay has a vid where she washes her hair in sections. Search yr for kimmay. I hope that helps.

Just braid or twist your hair up, secure the ends with scrunchies if you need to, then wash your hair :)

Another tip is before you wash you hair use oil (whatever is you like) to finger detangle/smooth into sections hair before getting in the shower. It takes at least 15-20min off my washing sessions and I am not tempted to get irritated in the shower.

I have tried washing my hair in twist and the twist always come a loose. I will have to try using scrunchies or some clips. I find it hard to do since my hair is uneven lengths and the longest being NL. I am also transitioning.

I never of thougt of finger detangling before I shampoo my hair. I just always apply the oil, let it sit for a while and then rinse it out and move on to the next step. I will have to try this.

yep. i stopped when i relaxed but that was a disaster.:perplexed

i braid my hair in four sections before i get in the shower. once i'm in there i take down one section at a time, finger detangle and add shampoo and/or conditioner. wash it out, finger detangle again then i braid it back up until i'm finished with all four.

I put my hair in quarters, pin each section up with a duck bill clip. That is sufficient to stem the tangling for me, I don't wash it in braids or twists, just sections of free hair.

I'm on the last legs of my transition, and for the last 4-5 months I've been detangling 1st, plaiting each section (about 8-10 plaits), then wash. I started doing this because my scalp has been really itchy w/ some flaking. I'd been avoiding poo but I had to try something to help my scalp. I've been using Nizoral, diluted 3:1 and it's been helping. But to avoid tangling while scrubing my scalp and too much poo all the way down my strands, washing in sections really help to control the process. The benefit of less tangles and less manipulation while my hair is soaking wet has really help my retention in lenght and thickness. It take a little longer to prepare to wash may hair but it's paying of for me

I do the same thing. I separate my hair in 5 sections and just wash each section one at a time.

I usually braid in 4 sections and unbraid each section to wash and then braid it up and move on to the next or I use scrunchies to separate and wash in 4 sections.

I use children's barreta.to clamp my hair in 4 -6 seconds about l/2 way up the length. then use an applicator bottle to apply shampoo directly to my scalp. I can message to clean it, but get no tangles. I also apply conditioner with the barrets in. Only removing them when I'm out the the shower and ready to apply leave-in

I found a youtube video from Ms.kibbihair whereal she washes in sections. I try this method. I'm just nervous because my last attempt (non sectioned) at, 8 weeks left me with alot of hair loss. Im 5 weeks post, and am yet to find something to make my new growth softer, I'm 4 a/4b? And reccs?

I leave my hair braided in 8 to 10 sections, and I just wash it that way. I make sure I squeeze my hair so that the shampoo and the water can saturate each strand.

The braids loosen up after the first wash, but the sections are still there. Then after rinsing the water out, I add another capful of shampoo. I repeat the process. The braids start unraveling at this point.

Then if I'm trying to get rid of an old bottle of shampoo, I'll add another capful of
shampoo, just to make sure that all the strands are clean.

I don't have time to unbraid and wash each section, then braid it again.

I do the same..... It works for me. I have never tried the braiding section method, although reading this thread I'm going to try the braid method next wash. If it works better I will continue to do so, if not I will go back to just 4 sections.
