How can we be worried about hair in such perilous times?

Agreed. Letting my looks go to hell isn't going to change the state that the world is in.

:yep: yup!

There have already been some really good comments. However, the forum and haircare is a really nice distraction. I can pray or LOA and ... about what's going on in the world, then it's time to move onto something else to fill my day.

Girl, there has and will ALWAYS be perilous times.

That was my thinking.

At every point in time some situation somewhere was in need of attention and as Mook mentioned, 'perilous times' existed/exists in folks personal lives. So what makes THIS time any different? When the Haitians were rioting because they were hungry we were talking about hair and deep conditioners...as folks were dying in Darfur what were we doing? Iraqi babies dying, etc. I’ll admit that this is a 'normal' or human reaction or emotion. But once you step back and ask yourself why is any different, it boils down to one thing… it now affects you...

And let's not forget that someone somewhere might very well be benefiting or a new possibility/opportunity will emerge. Though hard to imagine...

When have times ever not been troubling?. Yes, I understand where you are coming from but as Mwedzi pointed out this is pure escapism. Take it from me I work in the Congo where everyday, we are confronted with the truth and reality about war and its consequences. Today, in fact there was a riot and we had to leave the office early. When I log on to this website, I find it really calming and enjoy all the posts. It makes me forget about the problems here that I cannot alone resolve.

Best,

I agree with all of you ladies and I try to be mindful of the Serenity Prayer.

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference".

Anything outside of that, I can't and won't worry about. I know that I am God's child and if whatever comes my way, He allowed it to be so and He saw the outcome before He granted permission. Whatever it be, it'll be for my good...

I don't believe we are "worried about hair", I think we are concerned but in a good way and this forum has provided such an encouraging sisterhood that we all benefit from. The African Proverb "Each one teach one" and that's what this board does.

The Bible says to take no thought for tomorrow, for it will take care of itself. Tomorrow isn't promised to any of us, we have to live each day as if it's our last.

Love you guys!

The world is full of the disheartening, tragic, and pressing. That’s the world we live in. I learned first hand earlier this year how life can deal you a hard blow and cripple you to the point losing it. My husband and I buried one of our twin daughters earlier this year. She died from something we had never heard of before. I shut down and stop taking care of myself – health/fitness, hair (lost a lot of hair from stress and neglect), everything… Over the last month or so, I’ve begun to get myself together.

For me, it’s all about balance… things I have no control over, I don’t allow my mind to dwell on them… take care of home, do what I can/feel to do for others, and most of all take time out to take care of me… all of me – this includes my hair. It’s about feeling and being vital in every part of my life, which enables me to be of greater service to those in my life.

In this day and age, we all need constructive release, be it hair, music, reading, hanging w/ friends, whatever… if it’s beneficial to your personal development & wellness, go for it!

Kgard… thank you for the post & thank you ladies of LHCF for reinvigorating my hair care regimen. :grouphug:

At 21 I'm hardly full of sagely wisdom, but I know it when I hear it. Thanks in large part to my mommy raising me right. IE, not being afraid to apply 'Da Belt! :lachen:That said I was a good kid, I only needed such discipline twice in my young childhood.

Back to the topic:

Your words in bold stood out to me, though ALL of your post is steeped in it. :yep:

We have to look to take care of ourselves AND THOSE AROUND US to get through hard times. The vertical and horizontal of life.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us and the wonderful, wise advice you learned from your hard times. It is greatly appreciated! God bless you, darling!

What every body else said. I agree. I need something that keeps me from losing my mind and becoming depressed.

I'd rather focus on my hair than the economy. Like others said, I cannot control the economy but I can set and achieve goals regarding my hair. I love achieving my goals; they me happy :yep:.

Oh well I guess we all need a diversion of some sort. Its not to say we are not concerned or taking action in regards to the economy or the sad hatefilled world we live in today but we still have to move on daily.
I'm spending less, actively contributing to my candidate monthly, steadfast in praying for my healing, change of attitude and trying to stay positive w/i all this negativity. Whats a girl today?

Since the election of our honourable President GW Bush, the economy has been spiraling out of control. Trust that this did not start with September 11th...I saw it coming.
I don't think I shall EVER feel guilty for focusing on SELF...if I don't who will?
...oh yeah i've been on a NEWS FAST for the past 6 months! They ain't really saying nothin' new...
