How can we be worried about hair in such perilous times?

I am sure I will get a beat down for this one but I just have to speak my mind. With everything falling apart as we know it economically and obviously getting worse before they get better. How could we bring ourselves to care about another inch of hair growth or what beyonce has on in her photo shoot another minute? I posted this in the hair section for a reason. Also, I am not preaching to just you ladies but to myself as well for being so superficial in deep, serious times. Comments anyone?

God Bless!

For one, our hair is something that we have control over. We do not have control over the global economy, weather, celebrities, etc.

For two, when our hair is done, we feel better, confident, pulled together, etc., which can help us better deal with the stresses of life.

For three, focusing on our hair distracts us from #1.

I thought about this today but for another situation not related to hair. There are so many other things to be worried about right now. However, we cannot fall into depression since ultimately there is nothing we can personally do to save the economy. We (as in me & DH) can only help to save ourselves and hopefully our family members/friends to see if we can ride this out together.

Personally, my hair is helping our personal budget. Going natural is SO MUCH CHEAPER than relaxers & weave. I was paying $200 a pop for weave plus the cost of the hair and then $75 for relaxers every 8 -12 weeks. Doing my own hair a few times a week will cost under $12 (poo, condish & leave-in) for an entire month. Also, the $11 phony pony is reusable for months.

You can't control the economy hun and sitting at home in a closet rocking back and forth about it won't help.

This is why we all should have budgets that save a good percentage of our money regardless of what the economy is doing. This is why we should all be more savvy shoppers in everything...food, clothing, personal care etc...

Actually, cosmetics and the like are one of the few things that is "Recession proof" since looking and feeling your best helps increase confidence in a time that can really make it hard to be hopeful of the future. We all feel better when we think we look good hence the reason the beauty industry is a multi-billion industry regardless of economic times.

I work in what I now refer to as the financial meltdown industry :( ...it's okay to think about the hair....gotta have some joy where you can find it...and it's one of the things you can have control over.

Dee reminded me of that when she texted me about if I did a protein treatment or not...

Your point #3 is exactly what I was about to write so.....

what she^^^ said :yep:

If I focus too much attention on the economy I won't "have" any hair :look: :lachen:

exactly. shoot, some of us focusing on hair precisely because of other troubles. why were escapist movies so popular during ww2? i'm just using up as much as conditioner as i can before the meteor/fresh water shortage/food shortage/global warming/zombie apocalypse comes.

Agreeing with the ladies, K!! (Hey girlie!!),

We must take one day at a time and definitely find activities that relax us. Worrying about anything can't make the problem or situation go away.

Just think of your haircare as a way to relax, unwind, and escape from all of the worries around you!:yep:

Agreed. Letting my looks go to hell isn't going to change the state that the world is in.

Yup that is one of the reason's for my trying to go natural because if I we have a crazy disater and I won't have to worry about my hair just wash and go.

I agree thinking of our hair serves as a distraction. We can't just sit here and worry ourselves sick over the economy. It doesn't mean were selfish because we think of our hair or that we don't care. We do care but we need some form of escape once in a while to ease our nerves and personally I see nothing wrong with that.

Lawd knows, the country has seemingly gone to hell :ohwell: ...no need to look bad on top of that...

Not to mention, in perilous times, lots of people turn to self destructive behavior to escape(drinking, drugs).

Taking a few hours a week to play with my products and relax under the dryer with a magazine is a perfectly fine way to spend time.

I don't worry about things I can't control. And here lately that includes my hair!
This is my opinion only but I don't think the Lord wants me to obsess over anything. I should be aware and concerned and trust him to do the rest. I personally think he wants us to do and give our best at all times and that includes my hair and sometimes my opinion.

*grins* See the quote in my siggy?

The ideals which have lighted my way & repeatedly given me new courage to face life cheerfully have been kindness, beauty, & truth

That's why. When things get dark, and ugly, sometimes it's beauty that gives us the courage to keep going. My hair is part of my own personal beauty, and keeping that prospering and healthy and growing gives me some sort of hope that there is still a chance for other things to be prosperous and healthy and well.
When people are distressed/depressed/ill - their apperance is one of the first things that slide.

:look: Just cuz the world is going down the crapper, doesn't mean I need to, as well.

Dayum...I did forget to mention I've turned to wine as my new bff...along with popping Benadryl...does that fall under drinking and drugs?

lol of course it does! Your becoming a regular little LiLo or Brit.S!j/k
But, I do agree with the other ladies.

It's like all of the ladies said, for the most part, we can control our hair. We can't control a bunch of old greedy dudes across the globe. You have to some degree of peace in your life or at least something positive you can focus on.
As for the economy, all we can do is just keep planning for the worst and expecting the best.

We cannot control the economy, and the melt down of big international banks and large companies. The real problem lies in billions of dollars/pounds/euros were being poured into Iraq war, but the war was a disaster, all the money that the few were to make, have not made it, as a result, it has affected everything, the mortgages, people losing their jobs, I met a friend today and she was very unhappy, where she is working in local government and she cannot leave, after 22 years, she was being offered a rebundancy pay of £12,000.00 $6 thousand dollars approximately) imagine that and she was furious, plus when she started she used to do housing benefits, now she is doing rental benefits, council tax and she is working on Saturdays, because she cannot finish the work. All this was fortold in the Bible Revelation, greedy people start wars to make themselves more rich. The world is big enough for everyone to live and abundance, but unfortunately there are those who want everything for themselves and the rest of us must have little or none at all. Once we have wisdom, and we have our ears to God, Jehovah Jireh will provide, and we trust and stand on his words. Our hair is very important to our lives, it is God given and we must be proud of it. That is something we can control and we should be very concerned about our hair, it's ours. I am all for being rich, we must have abundance in all aspects of our lives, we must be blessed and be a blessing to others, but I am very much against large institutions making money from slavery, starting wars, rumours of wars, de-stablising countries, so evil people can get rich, have the best and the rest of the population must suffer. How many banking instutions do support arms deals etc. What you sow, you will reap and many are getting the harvest they sow. How the mighty have fallen and there is more to come. Ladies concentrate on your hair and looking good, keeping well, because you are still and will be blessing to other ladies.

worrying about my hair aint gonna change what is going on right now. plus im in the military, i got a paycheck lol

i've paid too much dang money on products not to pay attention to my hair. maybe when they run out, i'll spend more of my efforts worrying about things i have no immediate control over

We cannot control the economy
However, we can control our reactions to it!

For me it is that simple.
I always feel that taking care of your self from head to toe will be bring a person out of a negative and trying situations!

Well this is a hairboard and other topics are discussed on the off topic or on the christian forum or the political forum....

OP are you just going to roll over and die because of the times we are in? Keep living your life as well as you can, nothing is ever certain. If doing/maintaining your hair eases a little stress in your life continue to do it:)
