"Her 4b is not MY 4b" spinoff(hair type chart)

I think type 4 is way too broad.
It goes from curls/coils to the kinkiest hair.
I don't see how defined curls/coils can be in the same boat as the nappiest of kinks ('scuse my non-pc language).

I like to say that i am a 3/4 mix but I think I am just going to leave the hair typing alone.
It's like trying to determine if someone is light skinned or brown skinned...And we all know how that goes.

i think i agree w miss norway, just like there are different shades of color there r soooooo many different types of hair, i think there are similarities in our hair types, but some differences also....i realized a long time ago those hair charts are way to broad. But they r nice pics for some type of reference..... :wallbash:

:yep: I agree that the pics need to be bigger and it'd make SO much more sense to use members from the board instead of celeb (because the 3s and fours all have vaired hair styles/techniques that may be making their hair look a certain way) and a clear definition of what the different types are (a through z!) Because my hair has been confusing me lately :drunk: and I don't know WHAT the heck I am.

ETA: after inspection according to this chart I range from 3b-3g .. oii

The thing that is confusing to me is that before I knew how to properly condition my hair and to get it to retain moisture I would have sworn it was was type 4z. Since that time I find that using the right combination of conditioners / natural food products, henna, etc. my hair can look like a 3c / 4a type. Go figure...

For those viewing the chart on their BB like me, but can't see it well, press the menu key after you scrolled down close to the chart then hit select mode. Select the chart and press full image. You will be able to see it better.

Before I BCed and at the very beginning I thought I was a 4a/b, but as my hair got more moisturized the 4b parts turned to 4a/3c and the 4a parts turned to 3b/c :perplexed.. it's still a frizzy mess though :lachen:

It's a cool chart, but I'm pretty sure some of those type 4s are manipulated. Def 4f and 4g are, and I think 4h is, too.

My hair looks a lot like Jill Scott's (4e) if I wash and go. But the next 2 (4f and 4g) look blown or picked out, and my hair will look like that, too, under that kind of manipulation. And If I wet my hair, pick it out, and then pat it into place to make a round shape and let it dry and shrink up, it will look like 4h.

Then again, maybe that's okay. We can refer to our hair as a range.

Ok...now Im a 4e-4g....whew glad we got that out of the way...lol!!! Great chart I love the diversity of our hair

Eh...

That's just the thing... if you were to REALLY sit down and type people, it'd be WAY more options that that.

There are MILLIONS of us around. How do we really expect to define hair textures when we are all individuals? Unless we are twins, not many people have the exact same hairtype.

Even when we say type 4a... doesn't mean that we litterally have the same 4a across the board. From this chart, you'd run into the same problem. "Her 4F isn't MY 4F" - for example.

I like how this chart shows variety :yep:

However, I've come to the conclusion that hair typing is probably meant to be JUST A ROUGH GROUPING of hair types. There are too many different hairtypes to really chart.

For every type too! Type 1 hair has MANY variations too.

I think for my own hair sanity, I will just keep it to simple definitions based on curl diameter... because it was never meant to be all inclusive or truly define every little difference in texture. No chart can do that. There is too much variety.

Sorry for the long post... and please don't shoot me guys.

haha i remember this, this is so old. i agree though most visual curl chart are or should be curl size only, because to add in texture plus curl size plus density.... no one has that kind of time lol
