Hennaphilics....

Great news CICI24! Thanks for sharing.

For me it seems that the combination of the henna use, frequent rinsing/conditioning and no heat leaves my hair much straighter after braiding and the curls much silkier when I air dry than when I used a blowdryer, pressing comb or curling iron to style. Some day I'll get that rollersetting equipment but for spring and summer I think I am feeling wash n wear styles.

Sassygirl,

I really tried to prepare you guys for the messiness of a henna treatment. I hope that you think it is worth it. Also, you'll get better at it with time. The first time I used Herbal Tame I was living at home and I messed up my bedroom AND the family bathroom. Green clumps of henna paste were everywhere. Also, I think Hada gave you some excellent instructions on the rinse out process.

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY SassyGirl/images/graemlins/clap.gif

To answer your ?, I just add everything all at once, let sit for a little bit and apply. Henna is about the messiest product I've ever applied to my hair, but it's worth it /images/graemlins/smile.gif I'd rather the mess and healthier hair, than having a clean application but due to chemicals, etc., ending up with one damaged head of hair.

How did you find the product in terms of dryness, moisture, etc.? Thanks.

Thanks everyone!

I read that it was messy. But I figured it would be messy like regular haircolor. NOT! After rinsing, I used Mizani Moisturfuse without heat for about 30 minutes. Next time I'll use the Nature's Gate Herbal Conditioner.

Amethyst:
I left it on for two hours without heat. When I took off the plastic cap my hair looked and felt like it was encased in black cement. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif But my hair doesn't feel dry at all. It was a little stiff immediately after rinsing, but it always feels that way after a protein conditioner.

Now that I know to let the mixture sit longer, the next time will be a better experience. And I'm using Neutral. But I'm still sitting in the tub! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ah Ha! Though some measure of stiffness is inherent with protein, wait until you wash your hair! After my first treatment, my hair washed the same way it did when I used to use a mild relaxer. No Joke. Girl I couldn't believe it! And since I love me some THICK HAIR, I was glad it didn't go flat the way it did with a relaxer. I love this stuff despite the messiness. This is the only product that I'll say "give me messy anytime, anyday /images/graemlins/smile.gif"

I have to admit,

The messiness for me is alot of fun. I feel like a kid making a mud pie when mixing my henna and then applying it in to the hair as if I wear applying some "secret beauty" product....which it is. Not alot of people are complaing now about the scent. I guess they're getting used to it.

Now you've got my hopes up. I promised myself I wouldn't have any expectations until after the 4th treatment. Why are you teasing me? /images/graemlins/grin.gif
Seriously though, my hair is kinkier than yours so I doubt this will happen to me. But if my hair is easier to comb when it's dry and easier to blow dry straight, I will be a very happy woman! If I can wear a "shake and go" (when I'm fully natural) that doesn't have 99% shrinkage and clump up when it dries, my prayers will have been answered. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Okay. I actually comed through my hair while it was dry today. /images/graemlins/trampoline.gif

I did my 2nd treatment last week. Neutral this time--not nearly as messy as the Bark Brown. No spectacular results. But when I shampooed Monday and the water hit my hair, my hair was like BUTTER! I thought it was going to melt right off of my head! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif I applied a little of Carolyn Gray's oil this morning and combed through my dry hair with a wide tooth comb with ease. Did I mention my hair was dry? LOL Then I got carried away and tried to use a smaller comb. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif It didn't go through, but it didn't get stuck, either. Usually the wide tooth comb gets stuck in my dry hair. I wonder what my hair is going to be like in one month? /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Henna is a keeper! Thank you ladies! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What did I tell ya! /images/graemlins/bouncy.gif I TOLD YOU WHEN YOU WASH YOUR HAIR WHAT WOULD HAPPEN RIGHT? Easier to comb, more manageable. I did 5 treatments in a row and each time you use it, the straighter your hair becomes. As for coloring, I use the adores black velvet. It's a rinse you can turn into semi-permanent by adding heat. It has no ammonia or peroxide. I've used the gleaming ebony but now I just use the neutral. You are so right. Neutral is not half as messy. BTW, for faster hairgrowth, check out CurlyCrly PPBiotin thread. That product got me singing it's praises /images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK, now I have to go back and read through this whole thread. I had no idea Henna made hair more manageable.
Damn you Amethyst stop doing this to me!!! /images/graemlins/swearing.gif

FYI: My henna conditioning recipe:

1 packet of neutral Hennalucent
¼ cup of Aubrey Organics GPB
**Approx. ½-1 cup of Nature’s Wonderland Herbal Hair Conditioner (from here: Hair Tea . It’s a hair tea that I use instead of plain water.)
Olive oil, Jamaican black castor oil, Kelechi hair oil and African Royale Hot Six Oil that equals ¼ cup (probably ½ olive oil and then enough of the other to equal ¼ cup of oils)
2 TBS of Nature’s Gate Herbal Conditioner

I mixed it all up and let it sit for 60 minutes. Shampooed and towel dried hair. Then I applied it to my hair making sure each and every strand was totally saturated. Covered hair with a plastic cap and sat under the dryer for about 1 hour. I left it on for another 2-3 hours without using any heat. Rinsed. Shampooed with Breakthru. Deep conditioned with Elasta QP DPR-11 for 20 minutes w/ heat. Rinsed.

That’s it!

**I’m not sure about the exact amount of the hair tea because I add a little at a time.

I want to thank everyone for putting up with all of my endless questions! /images/graemlins/notworthy.gif

I have (yet another!) question.
I was reading the Rainbow Henna label and it says you can remove henna by saturating the hair with warm mineral oil, leaving it on for 20-25 minutes and then shampooing the hair.

Here's my question: Will my pre-shampoo hot oil treatment remove the henna from my hair? Or is this something that only applies to the Rainbow brand? How are Rainbow and Hennalucent different?

hi sassy. I know to get the hennalucent out the instructions on the pamphlet says:

"Hennalucent COLOR OUT is the only available product designed specifically to remove Hennalucent henna or any henna. It is completely organic and natural. Hennalucent COLOR OUT is completely non-harmful and will not damage the hair. Chemical treatments such as perming, or coloring can be done immediately after using Hennalucent COLOR OUT because of the absence of metallic salts."

Sassy I want to switch too and try the other versions. They sell the Rainbow version in my local health food store. I think I'll try it for my next treatment and post results.

Thanks! I like the Hennalucent, but I want something I can buy in bulk. Henna is gonna be a lifetime thing for me! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello ladies,

For those that did not know or that are interested I copied the picture and ingredients of Hennalucent (below) from the internet:

henn_colcon.gif

Ingredients:

Henna, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sucrose, Quaternium-19, Hydrolyzed Animal Protein, Guar Hydroxypropyl Trimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearalkonium Chloride, Fragrance, Plant Extracts and other ingredients.

Hope this helps someone. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sassy I've used it as a deep treatment. I think it was CiCi or Kasey who said their friend grew waiste-length hair using this product. I have to go and find that link but I know I asked the question and one of these ladies answered /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyone ever order henna from Monterey Bay Spice Company? They seem to have good prices on henna.

1 pound of Neutral henna is $5.00
1 pound of Black is $4.00
1 pound of Red is $2.98

They also have other colors like chestnut and blonde. I here you can create chestnut and blonde by mixing some of the main colors together a certain way. Main colors are Neutral, Black & Red.

Thanks iris /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Sorry for the repeat--I actually did a search, but for some reason I thought they were talking about the liquid Hask Placenta product in the little vial...

Hi ladies,
OK, I'm kind of lost i looked up henalucent on a beauty website and it says it's a co,lor condtioner that makes hair more managable. But from what I'm seeing posted does henna relax natural curls, or how does it work and what does it do exactly to natural hair because I have no clue. /images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks in advance. /images/graemlins/cool.gif
