With the increased interest on the boards for Henna/Amla/Indian Oils and my own experiences with these, I've been doing some research online
and thought I'd share the results with you ladies.
I've been hennaing since Mid October and my hair is thick, shiny, has a gorgeous color and is very strong. I've also been using Vatika Oil (coconut oil with Neem, Amla, Henna, rosemary oil, and other herbs/oils added to it) for a few weeks on my thin right temple. It had been doing much better since I joined LHCF and started babying it, but there was definite room for improvement.
erplexed OTHER PEOPLE (aunts, uncles) have been commenting on my hair growth there and asking me what I've been doing. This prompted me to do some research which led to the discovery that nearly all the ingredients in Vatika oil are praised by Ayurvedic principles as promoting hair growth, stopping hair fall and being good for general scalp and hair health.
What is Ayurveda you ask? Ayurveda is a centeries old form of Indian alternative medicine. It emphasizes the use of herbs, natural foods, massage, oils, etc. for holisitc health and personal care.
I am a self described skeptic, so I decided to run my information by my parents. My mother is a Nurse and my father is a Doctor and the minute I said 'Ayurveda' they both got really excited and said that they had heard alot about it and that with the increased interest in Western societies on organic food, tradiontional medicine and whatnot, interest in Ayurveda (which used to be automatically dismissed as quackery) is building.
I know many of use have realized the benefits of a healthy diet, vitamins (MSM for joint problems anyone??) etc. We have also seen how well natural products can work out for our hair, as that zillion page henna thread illustrates.
So here are some links that I have found concerning Ayurveda and in particular Ayurveda for hair care. I hope that it will be of interest to you ladies, 'cause I have found it fascinating indeed!!
