I'm sitting here with relaxer in my head for the second time in 4 years.. Last time I relaxed was back in Nov, and that was the first time in 4yrs. When I relaxed my roots were straighten but my ends are very curly . Second time around Im relaxing right now and my roots are very straight as the motions no lye sit in my hair, but my ends aren't changing and are very curly. Why is this happening?, thanks in advance!

I'm a little confused? Did you reapply the relaxer to the ends the second time relaxing?

Do you know what your hair type is?

girl what are you doing? a corrective or virgin? and you shouldn't be on the net. applying, processing, smoothing should have taken up your time. i hope you didn't overprocess,

The first time I applied a relaxer was in nov 2012 I applied it as a virgin, my intent was to completely relax but it sorta texlax it. I left on as directed . So I decided this time around, to leave it in longer and get the girls that were left, which actually was a head full, the first relaxer didnt do much for removing them. My hair type is 3b fine strands . Today I added a relaxer left it on for 30 min curls are still there, only on the scalp are they removed, and even there , there still some.

I understand your concern, I was making sure it was all ok. I came here while it was sitting in my hair after applying. I came to find out why. Honestly my hair always under process and I'm not sure why. Even when I leave it 30 min which Is rare it under process. Im looking to remove all curls, but this is the second relaxer which has failed on my ends. I'm thinking god has other plans?

Ive pulled stunts like this myself with the back of my hair :look:. I'm a 3b with fine strands as well and my hair is resistant it seems. I'd keep relaxing over the back again and again. Was natural from '05 to '11, then in '11 started relaxing the back of my hair and went fully relaxed in summer '12 then and did my first touchup 6 months later.
Are you using lye? I hope so because no lye destroys my hair but lye leaves curl but also causes minimal damage...
Make sure you use a good protein now like K pak or Aphogee 2 minute for the next few weeks...

I'm 3b/c and my hair did the exact same thing. I have seen other type 3s say the same thing- for many the hair is resistant to relaxing.

I don't think relaxers are a good idea for type 3 hair. My advice is to not relax anymore. Especially with fine hair (I have fine hair as well) - it is fragile so avoiding damage is really important. It is extremely easy to stretch the hair without heat, and it's also easy to straighten if you want to as well. No need to big chop- just grow it out and use some protein on the relaxed ends.

If you decide to keep relaxing, just touch up the new growth and don't overlap or you will get breakage. Read everything you can about relaxing on this board before relaxing again (if you choose to).

Good luck!

Same thing with me. I did a corrective on my ends at it laughed at the relaxer. I ended up having to trim 2 inches because I started getting split ends and what was left was still curly. I'm 4b. I'm giving up before I ruin a year of progress and letting it be.

well you can try again in about 7-8 weeks. you need to start with your ends first. just like it was mentioned upthread, the roots process faster. i would just work on dc'ing and throw in a protein treatment until you are ready to relax again. i would try going to a trained professional you trust. and you left that relaxer on too long on your roots. they are probably overprocessed, since the straightened right away.

make sure you do a lot of research on doing a corrective.

Yes, I agree. My hair is tricky it's so curly that it won't easily straighten. You say it's easy to stretch without heat. I need to find ways to do that because, my hair is very curly and just flat ironing won't do the trick, and I believe blowing it out then flat ironing will only work for so long, before my roots give resistance

Yes, I agree... I figured leaving it on longer maybe the ends would catch up, stupid me. And yes I'm running for research

I say you should use mild/heavy reconstructors mainly on the ends.. Then follow up with a moisturizing dc.. I like Fantasia IC super reconstructor.. Green and white tube. This should get your ends back to feeling good. If its a serious issue, you might have to slowly trim.
I have one section of my hair where the ends refuse to straighten. Im currently using this method.

The hair is healthy it's not broken off or anything. It's just I tried removing curls I wanted to go bone straight. Is there anything I could do to go bone straight that don't evolve using relaxers again?

Nothing I can think of besides blowing it out, or flat ironing it. I do that when I'm at home doing it myself. When I go to the salon for a wash and set the ends come out perfectly straight. I don't get a full blow out after the wash and set, only the roots.

Type 3 ladies, seem to have this problem. I'm A 3 C and my hair never gets totally straight it always has some type of curl to it in most of the head,

Sent from my Nexus 7 using LHCF

I'm 3b and natural now but I used relaxer for years and my hair never once went straight without using a flat iron. My hairdresser said that type 3 hair never goes straight with relaxer, now whether this is true for everyone it certainly seemed to be with my hair. All it did for me was loosen my curl pattern and would stop my hair reverting so quickly when I flat ironed. My advice to you would be to stretch your hair and/or flat iron occasionally and stop trying to relax your hair to get it bone straight as you are just likely to damage your hair.

I have a friend who is type 3 and she has to use Japanese relaxers to get heir hair straight as regular box and salon perms don't really relax her curl enough.

If you are going to blow dry and flat iron them ends...Why not wait 10 days from today. Whitin those 1- days make sure that you hair is moisturized real good and then At 10 or 11, Do BKT treatment on it. BKT is basically protein that will be added to you hair and it will make you hair strong and straight. I do this on top on my relaxers. I use BKT and then after 4 days I do a Deep DC and my hair is awseome. Most of all no tangles.

i know some are anti-BKT, but in my case BKT has been a major breakthrough in my hair regimen. I've been BKT-ing for 3 years. Two first year I was 100% natural and BKT and then on the second year I was relaxed and I applied BKT on my relax hair. I love it!!! My hair is still striving.

Might as well got that route. Make sure to get a BKT that will enable you to retain moisture. I had tried Glabal and my hair was dry no matter what I did...so I went with MT chocolate.

OP, do you have fine hair? my DD is 3b/c and her hair is very fine. i haven't used any chemicals on her hair, but it is said that individuals with fine hair strands tend to have normal to low porosity. it is harder for them to use chemicals because the hair cuticles are laid tight/flat.

what gets me though is that your roots are able to become straight, but the hair going downward is having an issues with straightening. so i am not going to leave it up to just your hair type alone.

Have you ever tried or considered a keratin treatment?
