Help! Daughter's hair is just breaking off.

My 15yo daughter came back from Florida after being there for a year ( for school) and she now has a TWA. I couldn't believe it, but I know some good advice I learned from here and started right away. Well, her hair is just breaking off, I rub my hands to apply moisturizer and it just sheds ( no bulbs, just breakage).
The next thing is, it will not absorb anything. Any product I put in her hair just sits there and creates the yucky white balls. ( I have everything, nothing works)
I'm thinking protein treatment ( hard), no chemicals, and daily co washes. But I need some more advice. I would post pics, but she is so self conscience (sp) she won't let me, she may be a 4b. Thanks I know I will get an answer to help;)

It seems like the first thing you should do is clarify her hair to get whatever it is that is causing it not to absorb products off.

Then find out if she did anything like put a texturizer or something like that in her hair.

Once you do these two things you will be able to come up with a better strategy for her hair.

IA: Clarify 1st. Had she been going swimming? Could it be Chlorine? What had she been using in her hair while away? You need to find out these things before you can adequately design a proper Regimen.:yep:

I'd Clarify 1st, then do a Balance of Protein followed by Moisture to try to get hair back in balance. I would do weekly DC'ing Treatments.

I'd start out with a Heavy Protein to stop the breakage. Then, follow-up with weekly light protein treatments. Always Followed Up with Moisture.

You may want to seal everything by doing a final PC rinse after the treatments.:yep:

Thanks, I will clarify!
She wore A LOT of wigs while away, due to her not liking it so short, she says she looks like a boy. We are all trying to boost her confidence by telling her this IS the new style (ie. Janet Jackson), but for her it was almost not by choice. She doesn't swim or anything and her diet is pretty good, she drinks lots of water. So, I will clarify and then do protein followed by moiturizer. Hopefully this will stop it.
She also cannot were braids especially kinky twists, they absolutely take her hair out, and now I guess wigs either, I've just never seen this before no protective styles:ohwell:. Thanks again.

Unless there is an underlying illness....another possibility might be..

If she wasn't protecting her hair with a silk stocking cap, the wigs may be causing a lot of the problem by rubbing on her hair (I had that happen to me ). Also did she color at all?.

For a good moisture treatment, you could try saturating dry hair with coconut milk. Leave in for a few hours and rinse really well with plain *water. Add no other product other than a light oil like EVOO, coconut or argan oil for a few days and spritz daily with water or a mix of your fav essential oils and water. Some like aloe vera gel which is ok to use also for the healing properties.

* At least one cool rinse to close the cuticles.

All things don't work for everyone but this is what has worked for me :yep:

HTH

Good Point. You still have to treat and protect your hair even under a Wig. Friction from the band alone can mess you up if you're not keeping your hair moisturized and keeping something (a wig cap, satin cap etc...) between your hairline & the wig.:yep:

Keep it Moisturized. Try low manipulation for a while. And Watch It Carefully!

The same thing was happening with my 11 year old's hair. She has VERY thick and coarse 4a/4b hair, and to look at it you'd think it was very healthy. But her ends would break off with little manipulation.

Frustrated, last week we went to war..... I shampoo'd her hair with a clarifying shampoo, did the hard Aphogee (sp?) protein treatment, followed by a 40 minute DC under heat. The result was like night and day! Breakage is 80-85% eliminated! She'll be wearing mini 2-strand twists for the next month, and I'm thinking of applying this conditioner protien moisterizer I just bought to her ends every other day or so to help.

So, long story short, the advice you got here should help! Keep us updated!

:yep::yep::yep: Everything she said! Since her hair's 4, find out if she'd been moisturising you may need to do a daily moisture spray since she's got a TWA

Yes! Good advice. She wore wigs because it just always broke off, family members thinking they knew what they were doing, relaxing when I tell don't etc. She didn't protect under the wig at all, but she was out of state and I had no control only what I would tell her to do over the phone. But I will do the Aphrogee today and use some EVOO or CO. She wants it waist legnth like now, but I'm working with the inside as well as the outside. This happened to me when I was her age, but I used to color and relax all the time myself~ did not have LHCF, didn't have computers:ohwell:, so there you go. I have ammunition and I going to war too! I'll keep you updated, and hope this will help someone else down the line!
Thanks ladies

if the moisturizer still isnt taking, look into porosity control. My hair is under processed and as a result is porous and eats moisturizers. Porosity control really REALLY helps.
