I think its best for anyone who uses no-lye... I've never used lye relaxers in my life, and who has fine hair. I have the most unfortunate luck of having coarse fine hair and it works well for my hair. Even when relaxed bone straight it doesn't have that dead lifeless look and feel.

The last time I used it I had to relax at 5 weeks, and my stylist is pretty vigilant about stretching relaxers as long as you can but she took one look at my MTG/ Surged hair and said I was ready. I think this time I will be able to stretch further.

I currently use motions lye relaxer, im thinking about switching to another relaxer, i wanted to switch to phyto but it seems a little to steep for me. Any other suggestions for a good lye relaxer, at a good price.

I definately won't be trying this relaxer because it's NO-LYE and I just discovered that my hair does not like NO-LYE relaxers, it left my hair underprocessed and I had to do a corrective relaxer, (never had this problem ever before) it also left my hair looking drier than the desert. I tried the Vitale Life & Body on my daughter and it was the BOMB! I've always liked bone straight hair and never had stiff motionless hair unless I was packing to many products on my hair when I was young, for the last however many years I've learned to use a little oil like Biosilk to oil my hair before bumping and that was good enough, like my hair to flow like a Dominican Blow-out even if the Dominicans didn't do it, ;)

I am not tempted to try for this same reason.. I had to get a a corrective retouch too. Besides there is no waayyyyyyy! I am leaving my DE. I was love at first relax;)

I've tried Phyto Index I and it's ok. If I wanted my hair bone straight, then I would hate it. But I like the fact that I can wash my hair and have a little curly fro and then get it done by the hairdresser and it's bone silky straight. That's the good thing. I'm going to try Index II next time.

I WOULD LOVE TO TRY IT I JUST THINK ITS TO MUCH FOR A BOX PERM.

You know, I like Phyto, I will continue to use it because it's gentler and the price isn't an issue for me. But honestly, I really don't think the $60 price tag is justified. Maybe over the course of time it's better in the long run for your hair, but I don't see anything so amazing when I use it to say 'oh that's why it costs so much'. I was natural the first time I used it but if I was using another relaxer and just tried Phyto, Im not sure I wouldn't go back to my old relaxer if it was working.

Hey
how many of the ppl using phyto are 3b/3c and which index are you using?
im very tempted to get this but want to make sure its going to work for me...
thanks

I'd like to know this too. If I decide to texturize, I want to use the relaxer that will harm my hair the least.

I'mma 3b/3c/4a and I love Phytorelaxer.
My hair is not breaking off like it did with other relaxers. It is strong, healthy and has a natural sheen to it.

Unfortunately I started out using index 2 so it is basiclly bone straight, although I can get some curl to it if I use a bunch of products.
But the quality of my hair is very satisfying.
I will never use another relaxer.

It is definitely worth the money!

Ohhh reading all these rave reviews of Phyto really makes me want to try it right this very minute!!! I'm fairly certain that the next time I relax I will be using it, it almost sounds too good to be true! I'm currently using a French no-lye relaxer (don't remember the name) which is okay, nothing spectacular, but Phyto sounds like the bomb and a half!

Unfortunately I'm only 5 weeks post last touch up and I'm really trying to be a good girl and stretch to 3 months so my edges can recover from all the past abuse so... no Phyto for me, at least for a awhile:( .

I feel like the only real obstacle is going to be deciding what index to use... I'm a 4a so I guess I'm index II. After all these years of relaxing my hair and doing other damaging things to it, I always jump to any formula that says it's for damaged, thin hair, but if you think about it, the only reason my hair and most black women's is like that is from bad relaxers, crazy stylists, and my own laziness/ineptitude. My new growth isn't damaged or thin, that stuff is growing like a bushy weed! So I suppose index II it shall be...:p

I started using it this year. The first time I used Index 2. My hair was bone straight, which I wasn't too crazy about. I've been using Index 1 ever since. I think my hair likes it. I like that my hair is soft after relaxing. It also seems I can stretch relaxers easier and longer, although that may be because I've discovered new products that seem to help.

I will stick with it for the time being.

Ditto..., I used Phyto for the first time almost 7 months ago, and I have been stretching my relaxer ever since. I used to use Affirm forever, and I couldn't go longer than 8 weeks without relaxing.

*I'm getting ready for my Phyto creamy crack hit in April 2006, last touch-up was Nov. 5th, 2006. Index 2 fo life* :D

*Need a Phyto Gang sign..*:ohwell:

Ok I just ordered the Index 2. I dropped $46 plus $10 shipping on that relaxer!

That is just WAY too much cash to pay for a relaxer, but I want to see what all the hype is about. I hope it is worth it.

Salons that use it charge way more, so I guess I am getting a deal.

I look forward to using it and reviewing it.

Do any of you ladies find that your hair tends to be on the dry side since using Phytorelaxer. I read that no-lye relaxers dry the hair out.

I'm one of those that really can't handle lye on my scalp and it totally trashes my hair. Phyto is gentle, which I do like. If anything my hair has retained more moisture since using this relaxer than any other.

Example: I washed my hair around 7am this morning. Its now just after 2:20pm and its still damp.

I don't see any breakage after relaxing and my strands feel very substantial and heavy even immediately after. There's nothing worse than having hair that looks and feels really anemic.

I really can't see myself using anything else, and I consider it well worth the money (especially considering most chemical services are over 100 bucks in my area!)

I think that anyone that if anyone is curious about it, then they should definitely read about it on their website as well as and read any reviews. It took me MONTHS of reading before I decided to go for it. (I am very naturally cautious)

Can't say it works for everyone, but will say it definitly works for me :D

I'm a self relaxer and I use all of the Phytologie line. I tried the relaxer and whereas it was nice...I really didn't see a major difference in my hair from when it was relaxed using the Affirm Sensitive Scalp System.

For $60 I get 9 applications of Affirm Sensitive Scalp. When you include the costs of the shampoo and conditioner that goes along with it... I probably pay about $120 for 9 applications. That's $13.33 per application vs. $30 per application for the Phytorelaxer. So for me it was a numbers thing.

Don't get me wrong...I don't have a problem paying for the good stuff...it's just that the results were too similar to justify the cost for me. But if they sold it cheaper...yup...I'd use it everytime.

I finally used this and loved the results
Im three years natural and really drummed into my friend/stylist to be careful with my hair or i would kill her
My hair feels a little on the dry side but my hair always has.
i applied a little oil last night and its soft and bouncy much better than if it hadnt been relaxed , i could have drowned it in oil when natural and it wouldnt have made the slightest bit of difference it was still poofy and dry
I will defo be sticking to phyto and intend to get it touched up in about 4 months...being three years natural stretching shouldnt be a problem.

I would defo recomment it my hair is straight and yet has loads of body and is "swishy"

Actually, my hair seems more moisturized than normal at this stage of the game. I haven't washed since my 3/15 relaxer :eek::eek: ...I know, I know...so I will see how it holds up after this first wash. I'm still amazed my hair has so much bounce after 2 weeks!

I have tried this twice. First Index II, then Index I, I must say that it is a keeper for me. I like Idex I the best. The only thing I don't like is the Milky Reconstructor, really don't see anything special about it.

You know it's interesting reading all these reviews b/c I'd say 6 months ago if anyone had asked me what I thought of Phyto I would say it's the bomb!

But now i'm wondering if Phyto (and it's no lye-ness) is the reason my hair HAS been coming out really frizzy AND dry ever since using it now. In the beginning for the first 2 or 3 touchups it was great but now I'm wondering. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but maybe it's the PHyto!

Which saddens me cuz I really do like it and I loved how it didn't burn etc, but at the same time I've never used another relaxer to self-relax.

Does anyone have suggestions of some good relaxers?

Do people really think that some types of hair NEEDS lye?

I mixed it with the ORS RP and it worked out very well
