Have you ever wondered why guys have longer hair then us.

im not american im from the uk so ima just say black guys lol

but it just came to me guys seem to be able to grow their hair so easily look at omarion or snoop, for example, not just famous guys even guys here in london have long hair im guessin its the same in the states?

why isit they can seem to easily grow their hair and we cant?
isit because they always wear them in canerows coz im damn sure they dont do and go to all the effort we do :lachen:

just a point to ponder. any thoughts or theories

I think it has to do with our cycle we loose alot of nutrients in the monthly thang and they don't.

I personally think its because they keep it simple. Well that and genes. But mainly because they keep it simple and for the most part they are always protecting it (braids, wave cap).

I'm sure it has to do with the fact that they don't manipulate/abuse their hair as much as some women, i.e. relaxing, using too much heat, product buildup (which dries our hair out) etc.

I'm sure their "regimens" are much simpler.

It's because they don't 'care' for their hair the way we do. No heat on their scalp and ends, no bombarding the hair with product, no weaving, spritzing, etc.

They just wash and go. And I HATE them for that! :lachen:

I have a strong feeling that if all we did was wear cornrows, once wash a week in cornrows and maybe add a little oil, and redo them with gentle combing once every 3-4 weeks, our hair would look to be growing just as fast.

This was discussed a little while ago and it has something to do with hormones. The different levels of estrogen/testosterone alters their growth rates (increases it)

Because they don't care about it. Whatever you put a lot of attention into you don't get. Trying to conceive, losing weight, money, longer hair, finding a job, whatever.

No I don't wonder because I know why....they don't do anything to their hair but wash it and keep it braided up. It's not being manipulated or burned with heat so it grows faster and healthier.

this is exactly why I am hiding my hair under half wigs for 2009. I just want to give my hair TLC and rest.

I also think most women had longer hair when they were kids b/c they kept it braided.

Less manipulation = less breakage IMO

I think it's the low mani too. I plan on going low mani. I cornrowed my hair like how the stylists do for a weave where they attach the cornrows to one another, so very few of my ends are out and I'm about to sew them exposed ends up and wig it for the month. I'm trying to do it all year but I'll see how it goes week by week. If I make it thru the 1st half of the year I'll trim that 1" of split ends I have right now in the spring.

Think about it, they get it washed, conditioned, cornrowed and leave them suckas in for a minute. I sort of follow that same regimen except I wash my hair once a week. I retained more length doing that compared to when I had my relaxer.

I think it's b/c of the low manipulation. I used to wear half wigs ALL the time when I first went natural, only washing my hair once/wk. And then I would cornrow it back up and put the half wig back on. In no way was I trying to grow my hair, I was actually being real lazy b/c I didn't know how to deal with my natural hair (that was before LHCF of course:grin: ), and my hair grew a lot.

I would say it's the same thing for guys, but w/out the wig of course:yawn:

It's because of testosterone (sp). Male mammals grow more hair as an evolutionary means of attracting the female of the species. It's why males have beards, chest hair, and, my personal gripe, longer eyelashes. Perhaps there ae cases where hair care practices have something to do with it, but it's mostly biological.

ETA: but look at it this way, the same hormones that cause men to grow hair easily will one day also be part of the reason they lose their hair too.

my two and a half year old sons hair is longer than mine he is full apl to mid back :nono: we will cut in april for his third b day:grin:I CAN NOT HAVE any one of my three men dh included with longer hait that mine:rofl:

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I'm gonna go with the low manipulation. For 2 years in highschool 9-10, I only washed and cornrowed my hair and it grew longer than it's ever been

My brother has had longer hair than me:perplexed I think the "secret" is low mani&protective styling

i think its because of they just wash. and they use protective styles constantly, and their reggies don't contain any heat. seems like they do less to their hair and its really healthy.

I don't think black males generally have longer hair than us.
As a matter of fact, I've never seen this in person.
Also, I can only think of one black males hair I consider long and that's Real.
