I was at Sally's today trying to find something to take this permanent black dye out of my hair. I saw Colorzap and another one, can't remember the name. The lady said that they really don't work to remove black dye from ur hair. So, now I am trying to find suggestions on how to get this black out of my hair without taking drastic measures, i.e, bleaching, cutting, peroxide, etc. I just would like to be brown haired again. Nothing really light, just that it isnt as dark anymore.

I didn't know there was something to remove the dye from your hair. I would like to know this answer also. :)

Be careful with what you use - back in Jan. I tried something from Sally's (a color remover, can't remember which one, but it was in a dark yellow box) and my hair turned orange  So not cute...I was able to restore it with a color I had on hand though...

I tried a color remover.....I think it was Loreal. My jet black hair turned into a peachy blondish color.

Shaniquah, I think the one in the dark yellow box was the one I tried back in January too. The only thing is that I wasn't trying to remove a dark color, I was trying to remove a blonde :perplexed. It didn't work, so I had to go buy another permanent color (a darker one) from Sally's to put on top of my blonde. I was a blonde for less than 24hrs. There was no way I was gonna let my hair stay that color. Maybe the color remover only works when trying to remove a dark color, not a light one ::shrugs::

Color removers work by breaking up and dispersing the color molecules so they can be washed away. They DO NOT restore your natural or previous hair color, especially if your hair was dyed lighter than your natural shade. The best you can usually hope for is that the dye will be pretty much removed but whatever level your hair lifted to when it was applied will remain. For dark hair, this is typically an orangey shade. As for darker dyes (deposit only), some pigment from the color's base will probably be left behind after the use of a color remover, so you still may not restore your natural color this way. When you use these products, be prepared to tint your hair afterwards. However, if you are unfamiliar with color, it is best to seek the help of a professional or other knowledgeable person.

I've used Uncolor from Sally's to take out black dye. It didn't work completely, but it was much better than before.

I second Uncolor if you have used semi permanent dye. It didn't work totally, but it SURE helped... wow, I saw brown again  I use the Uncolor in the bottle. I am somewhat scared of the powder, as it is not reccommended for relaxed hair.

OT: balisi, for the past couple of months, you've been an encyclopedia of information. You go girl!

I used the one by Loreal multiple times in the past. It is not meant to be used alone, it's meant to be used to remove the old color, then to apply a new color. It will turn your hair a orange-y color (in fact, the instructions will tell you so). You also have to make sure you don't apply it on any of your "un-dyed" hair because you'll get weird two-tone color results.

It is also very harsh so plan on doing lots of deep conditioners afterward.

I haven't used one before, but I read a lot of reviews online about them. I dyed my hair almost 2 years ago and I wanted to get rid of it. The reviews mostly said that it didn't work the way that they wanted it to. Many people suggested using dishwashing liquid instead. They said that the dishwashing liquid will work better than the store ones.
