Has anyone tried adding a color booster to their hair dye?

I have naturally dark almost black hair and want to try lightening it to a very light brown. I was wondering if anyone has lightened their hair by adding a color booster to their dye! I was thinking about getting some Dark And Lovely dye and then adding a color booster to it ! I want to dye it without bleaching it! Any suggestions?
