Has any of you ladies learned to cornrow your own hair since lhcf?

I can't. It's hard for me to find the time to try, I have a two year old son and once he goes to bed I'm too tired to mess with my head too much! I'm trying to master flat twists first, then I'll work on cornrows. I want to learn to cornrow so that I can try crochet braids and braidouts when my hair gets longer. The one thing I realized was that I have to learn to braid underhand, and that will take me some practice.

I can't cornrow at all! I recently decided to teach myself and I'm going to use my 4 y/o daughter to practice on. I hope this goes well. :wallbash:

I've also just recently learnt, my mum tried to teach me for years with no success, lol. 2 things I realised I was doing wrong:
1. I always used to bring the hair over (for french braids), instead of under (for cornrows).
2. I'd forget to do one braid before you begin to start picking up hair.

Hope this helps someone!

SO that's what I've been doing wrong. :lachen: I'm going to try them underhand this weekend. Sheeeesh!

Question for those with 4b (and 4a) do you blow your hair out first or at least stretch it before hand.

I get the concept of frenchbraids/cornrows I just need to get better at it... because I'm not walking out the house looking HAM.

No, just the thought of it makes me exhausted! I wish I could though. I can cornrow but just not my own head. I'm fascinated by those who can. I think I can manage flat twists though. I want to do a style with flat twists or something on the side.

I've learned to cornrow in the last 4 months or so by following the you tube vids and advice from ladies (like Mook) on here that do some incredible cornrowing. The parting is the hardest part but as soon as I get some spare change I'm going to invest in a 360 degree mirror. When I finally bit the bullet and attempted a full head I was able to wear them out and about for almost 2 weeks, then I wore a braid out.

I only wanted to braid my own hair as I got tired of trying to track down my SIL to do it for me so I just kept trying until I got it. My biggest problem was making the sections too big and rushing to get through. But when I took my time I was pleased with the results.

My next challenge will be learning how to do cornrow up-do's. During fall and winter I may even so some crochet braiding. (I say "may" because DH is not fond of fake hair.)

I can do the cornrows themselves. Just can't get the hair-parting down. Getting better with practice, but my parts still tend to have a spider-on-hallucinagens quality.

START WITH FLAT TWISTS!

I promise that make it soooooooo much easier. I learned how to cornrow sometime last year (oct, nov or dec). I'm getting better everytime I practice. You just have to find a technique. Mines is still not perfect because I want to know how to make them a little tighter but I haven't been practicing that much lately... Since I have a TWA I've only been working on two strand twists.

I can't cornrow yet, right but I have no choice now. My sister and I got into a fight, and she's the one that's been cornrowing my hair since forever. I never had to learn. Now, I have no choice. I'm starting with flat twists for finger dexterity then, I'll move on to cornrows.

I've learned how to flat twist my hair.

Still stuck on stupid when it comes to cornbraiding...but I'm workin on it!!

Nope:nono:

I know how to put an accent braid here or there but the full blown cornrow thing? Unh uh:nono:.....i don't have the patience.

Bumping! If you guys have any favorite youtube videos, let me know.

I've known how to french braid since I was 10 or 11. But cornrows were difficult since I always ended up french braiding the hair.

I kinda learned flat twists last year, but haven't gotten into them until this spring. Even then, I'm kinda awkward with it since I'm trying to perfect angles and methods. And I only did part of my hair.

I'm now doing a flat twists all over my head as a protective style. I'm trimming off an inch of hair (due to split ends :wallbash:), but I'm hoping that I keep this style for 3 weeks, perhaps 4, and get some of that length back :yep:.

I'm going to cornrow after that (hopefully). I'll practice once a week on hair that gets fuzzy from my flat-twists (and re-twist after).

Parting my hair is a hot mess, too :nono:.

I don't know how other people can do it and not have that one fat braid left to deal with.

Yeah I've been able to cornrow, since like forever! Although I don't really do braidouts that often.

Bumping for YouTube videos on cornrowing YOUR OWN HAIR...

I can cornrow others, but not mine. I just can't seem to get it and I always get too tired.:perplexed

I've learned to cornrow since joining lhcf. I'm not nearly perfect though, I need more practice. I really want to learn to do other people's hair though!!
