Cornrow tips

I am trying to figure out how to cornrow my hair. Does anyone have any advice about how I can learn how to cornrow? I would initially like to do it for braidouts but I would eventually like to know how to do a healthier version of the cornrows that the editor of Essence has. I.e. nice neat cornrows with extensions added only at the ends). My hair is past my shoulders so maybe I could get away with doing the cornrows with only my own hair. Also, for those of you who relax, how do you keep the cornrows from getting undone? I would rather not use tiny elastics to secure the ends because I worry that they will break my hair.

get a doll with braidable hair, or a cosmetology student dummy head or practice on yourself and others. i think weave it up posted actual instructions you might do a search
