Sorry for not responding sooner. My friend, the stylist, has been doing hair for almost 30 years. She stated either she used hair steamers years ago, or they were used more by beauticians/stylists years ago.
She didn't ask me why I'm inquiring about them nor did she experience a "light-bulb moment" and state she'd give it some thought about using them in her shop.
Relaxers wreak havoc on my hair, drying it to the bone. The only reason my hair is the length it is now, is because of the information from hair care boards such as this one. My hair needs all the moisture it can get. I drink more than 8 glasses of water daily, moisturize my hair twice a day and lightly apply a creme moisturizer mixed with eo's.
My hair needs mega moisture. I've concluded a hair steamer will help me immensely! I know so-o-o many women pay $150.00 and more to have their hair braided. Including one of my daughters, sisters and nieces. I know one woman who pays $190.00 ***EVERY TWO WEEKS*** for weave in her hair. Her *2nd job* pays for this luxury!
By the way, I live in a small town and we have dozens of hair shops. But none I know of uses hair steamers. In fact, I doubt, if they know as much as you all do. As I stated in an earlier post, my friend asked me how do I get my hair straight by air-drying. No stylist has ever/b] told me our hair needs moisture to keep from breaking off.
I'm a lot older than most of you on this board. I remember when the Gheri Curl became very popular in the 70's. People (including) mine grew like crazy! Reason why: the Gheri Curl required daily moisturizing.
