Is anyone using a hair steamer in their regime? If so, what are your results? Where did you purchase your hair steamer?

I'm thinking of using BlkMane's hair growth oil solution & using a steamer at least three times a week to see what results I get.

You know, I have an old facial steamer and thought about trying it with my conditioner, but never did. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has used steam too.

Hi Nova, I don't have a hair steamer, but I go to the YMCA and sit in the steam room once a week w/ conditioner. My hair comes out so soft!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm kinda getting addicted to the steam because I can really tell the difference between a normal wash and a steam wash. /images/graemlins/drunk.gif It's great.

I just purchase a hair steamer..and its GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's the info..othrs might wantto know too,

I am glad to hear about your deep moisturizing experience using your
new steamer. Please do update me as to how your hair feels once it is
dry.
Yes, my hair dry and it WAS soft. I couldn't believe it. ALso I think its the conditioner you use make sure you use the one for you type of hair cause the steamer make sure it gets deep in there and the steam moist you hair at the same time.
I am interested in getting a steamer myself. If you don't mind me
asking, what brand do you have and can you send me a link to the
website where I can purchase it from if not sold in stores.
I had sent a lot of infomation out about the steamer. the prices and the links. I will add to the bottom of this post. I had found one for $145 its a dryer/steamer combo. I had also found a table steamer for $78 and the one I got was for $268 but she lower the price (MaryLou) if you decide to buy one form the company I delt with ask for MaryLou and tell her Angel from PA sent you.. but the one for $145 is a different comapny.
Do you plan on using every time you deep condtion and do your regular
conditions and/or hot oil treatments as well? How long do you stay
under ot to get the maximm benefits of your deep conditioner.
I have a hooded dryer. a heating cap and a steamer...for NOW on I will be using my steamer!! for all treatments. (Read below why I will be using the steamer for now on)
Can this hair streamer also be used as a hooded dryer?
it is a hooded like dryer/ if you would look at my pic you will see what it looks like. but the links below will provide you with what it looks like. It doesn't take up much room...they have a table steamer/standing steamer/a wall steamer from the company I broguht my from. I did find a steamer that you ca nuse as a steamer and a dryer..its $145 (information below)
Any information would be helpful. Thanks
Here's the information I had type up after I did my research about the hair steamer...Look below..if you have any question you can email me..also you can see how good a steamer is for natural hair by contacting a natural care salon and they will tell you. ask if you can know the results of their previous customers. Cornrows and Co do steam treatments...so you can also ask them...I'm not a professional but I did do a reasearch on the hair steamers and this is what I camr up with....hopeit helps you...

((Couple of people wanted my information that I had collected about the Hair Steamer. this is what I gave them, also another lady who is a natural goes to the salon and get the treatments done with the hair steamer and she said its great and she loves the results, she said she notice the difference as soon as she gets the conditioner wash out, she also said her natural curls are well define and her hair is soft, that is what her results are., I will post my results as soon as I get mine.))

I did the search here>>>Google Search: hair steamer and there is alot. But the cheapest one I found was on Ebay for $195.00 but dumb old me don't know how to use the ebay betting thing so the next cheapest one I found was for $268 but I live in PA so its a $10 shipping fee. SO it came to $278 which is here>>> http://www.beautybeautyusa.com/hs1.htm
http://www.beautybeautyusa.com/hair_steamer/hs_p17_sy304.JPG
a pic of it.
also if you call the number on the web site and ask for a catalog there is a table steamer in there for $78 the catalog # is (72) LR-08 Hair Steamer REG $120/SPE $78. I was going to get that one but the lady (Alicia) said its for home use but its not as strong as the other one (the other one is for salon use but she said you can use it in the home) she said the other on is better cause its stronger...so I decided to get the one for $268 (picture above). So I hope this helps.

ALso today I called the company and act like I was someone else..for a friend of mine and I talked with MaryLou well she said she'll give it for $235 and a $20 delivery charge so I'm thinking if you call and ask for MaryLou she might give you a better deal then the "other" lady I talked to which was Alicia..so ask for MaryLou....the # is 1-877-343-1983 (If you called the company I brought my from ask for MAryLOu and tell her Angel from PA sent you.)

http://www.ibbe.net/pd_30h200a.cfm <<a cheaper one..
$145
30-H200A
This is a gray Hair Steamer / Dryer Unit. It works as a dryer and as a hair steamer. It's height is fully adjustable and would be great for any salon. <<(a different company)

Hair Steamer is especially designed for super-dry and damaged hair. Steaming allows the deep treatment to penetrate the cuticle with moist heat. While the cuticle is open the mixture of water, heat and the deep treatment are able to go in and quench the thirst of your parched curls.

..its being said that the steam heat and the dry heat is the same but when I ask professionals (who own NAtural Care hair Salons) said the steam is better its more moisturizing. But also they said the hair steamer is for those with scalp problems and damage hair and dry hair (which I have dry hair) so the steamer is not for everyone who has normal hair I guess, but I do have dry hair and I think this will help me.

...the herbal treatment is just aromatherpy for you and the hair depends what EO's you use...mostly EO's that are use in the salons that has this treatment uses the ones that help with scalp problems and dryness. but also the hair steamer is use for coloring your hair, conditioning your hair, moisturizing your hair. So anyone with scalp problems and anyone who has dry hair, damaging hair or for those who color their hair this will be good. I think it will be good for people who has color in their hair as well cause dying you hair makes it dry..well mine anyway. I have color my hair and its dry,,,(real dry)
(((((the part underline is only my opinion, cause its something I'm going through right now. I know that some people who have/had color their hair do not experience dryness, but some do "like me"so for those who are experiencing dryness from color I will update on you about my dryness once I use my hair steamer, I will post my results.)))))

This is just information I had collected, this is not to say this is for everyone...I was interested to find out more information about hair steamers since no one knew so I did a little research and this is what I had found. I'm sharing just in case someone else had an interest in it too...I'm not saying "hey everybody go get a steamer its better" We all have choices and its good to know what the difference and the cons and the pros of what ever we chose to do...this is just information for those who wanted to know more about the Hair Steamers. If anyone find more information about this subject..hit me up..cause I want to learn more...

Hope this help. Keep me updates with your purchase and results.

Thanks for the info and the tip about Ebay(I'm a regular there). I noticed when I placed a plastic cap over my hair after shampooing and conditioning, then leaving it on while I shower, I get very nice curls. I know I would love a steamer. I'll check them out.

Wow NAPPtural! I really appreciate that you took the time to post this on the boards so everyone could see

This is the hair steamer that I purchased almost 2 years ago. BOY am I PO'd because I paid $200.00 for it & now it's 145.00. Oh well, Ces't La Vie....

On a whole, it's a great steamer & boy does that thing get HOT. It has all the same functionalities as the more expensive ones, so you could save yourself a few dollars if you wanted to.

I'm referring to a hair steamer that looks like a professional salon (type) hair dryer but it instead it blows steam. You sit under like you would a hair dryer.

I asked a hair stylist at my church about the hair steamer. She said salons used to use it years ago. She hasn't used one in years. Thanks again for your input.

The humidity climate provides moisture and water to for the hair. The steamers make much sense because just like humidity, they provide moisture to the hair and water is the best moisturizer there is.

Salons still use the hair steamer. I've talked with one salon a natural hair care salon that still uses the steamers. I did a resaerch on this before I brought mine, I have one and i use and I lve it...I'm not a stylist like the lady you spoke to but I know that there are salons that still uses them and also I'm a tried and error. I ahve one, so Iknow what it does to my hair, have the lady you spoken with have one or had use one before?
I just put the info out cause I had ask the same question before and no one knew anything about it or they hust wouldn't answer, so I looked up the info myself it was hard to do and hard to find but I found it and also I'm a example that it does help. Steamers are not for everyone, I had said in my info message that its for dry damage hair. If you hair is not damage or dry you can still use it but the cost of it you don't have to. I had dry hair my hair loves moisture and the more moisture it has it grows without breaking. and by me using the moist heat instead the dry heat it really helps my hair. But there are salons that still uses the hair steamers. I've talked with one.

Have you noticed increased growth due to the steam?

I'm a napptural, and my hair was dry. Plus in Feb I color my hair and made it even dryer, what I do notice is my hair been soft. and my hair grows and by it grwoing and being not dry I will have increase growth. It will seems like increse growth but its not..cause you hair grows anyway but with my hair it will grow and break..cause it was so dry now that I have combat the dryness my hair will not break. So it helps in the process of my hair growing...I'm wearing a TWA right now..my goal is to grow my napptural hair long, so I'm on my journey now and I will take pics as I progress so I will keep you updated. ALso there was another thread about PROVEN oil blend, about hair loss some ladies was suppose to use that blend for hair growth for 7 months, well next month I'm going to start that myself and use my steamer instead the hot towel and I will do this faithfully everynight for 7 months and I will keep you posted of what's gong on, if you want to know, If so email me your addy and I will keep you up to date.

these steamers, although valuable and fast are too expensive for my budget. what i can afford is to keep ORS hair mayo in my hair under 2 plastic cups and a silk scarf overnite.

I've noticed some hard bonnet dryers that have a misting feature...does anyone know if this would work the same?

I like the steamer i go once a week & sit under it for 10min. Hair has moisture, moisture & more moisture each time. My hair has a lot of shine & is soft to the touch.Happy hair Growing!

Hi Pandora, I agree w/ you. These steamers are very expensive. I currently go to the YMCA and sit in the steam room for 10 min w/ conditioner in my hair. My hair definitely loves the steam. I just did that this morning after I worked out. My hair is so soft and bouncy. I might have to break down and buy me one of these steamers.

Curve Salon in NY uses these as well.

Didnt someone on this board say they use their face steamer as a hair steamer and they created a special way to get it to steam the hair? I remember it being a discussion here not too long ago and someone mentioned they created their own steamer out of their face steamer. Also couldnt you get the same effect being just having the hot water on in the shower and put a shower cap on with conditioner and sit with the door closed? Or take a big pot of boiling water make a little tent with a towel and you get a steam for the face and the hair. God bless you all.

Someone ask a question about the steamer and I gave the info I had. I didn't say everyone get one. If anyone feels they can go to the gym, do a pot of water, steam in there bathroom and any other ways you can come up with so be it. I got a hair stemaer and I love it. I can sit on my big comfy chair and so a treatment or I can sit here at the computer and do a treatment that is what I like, others might find other ways. The information I put out are for those who wanted a hair steamer and couldn't find any info on it, ...I've choose to get a steamer cause its easier for me then to go to the gym (gym fee (for a year) is way more then s steamer cost) and the bathroom thing if you feel that you can do a treatment in your bathroom then that's all good, IMHO I don't think I (me) can get the same effect cause I know how the steamer work and I think its more powerful, and the facial steam if you had found a way to do your hair using that..that's all good too, with my hair steamer I can do a facial, so it all goes to show that different strokes for differnt folks.

yea i know. i was giving out information as well since many people were a little worried about the cost. i remember a couple of months ago there was a thread about hair steaming and someone mentioned a method they used that had the same effect as a regular steamer but w/o the added cost. its just about helping each other out and putting out information for people. it is all for the love of hair like naynay said.

The information above is for those who wanted to purchase a hair steamer but couldn't find any information about them. The lowest cost standing steamer that I can found is $145. This information is no way of saying that there isn't any other cheaper ways to do steam treatments.

Thanks NAPPtural!

I'd certainly pay $145 for something that could be used to conditioner and dry my hair if it's high quality that will last for years.

Do you fully rinse the conditioner out afterwards? Do you do anything to close the cuticle after the steamer opens it?

TIA
