Her: If a client's hair is too porous, you should cut it. The context we were discussing hair porosity was during the perm chemical service (as in curly perm not hair straightening relaxers like Mizani for eg.) If the client's hair is so porous (especially if the hair is dyed) that it won't hold a curl well, then the best thing to do is to cut it off because it is damaged.
Me: Yet, when we talked about heat trained/stretched/overprocessed hair that won't hold a curl, no one mentioned cutting the hair under those circumstances. My understanding is that the hair's elasticity determines its ability to hold a curl and not how porous the hair is.
I asked ' if alkaline solutions raise the cuticle, then what does lemon or vinegar do?' Her response was that they dont' do anything to the hair. I pushed, 'they must have some effect (or is it affect?) on the cuticle. I know some ladies who [caugh] LHCF [cough] put vinegar on their hair to seal their cuticles?' Someone yelled out that they use vinegar to clean chicken lol. Turn the page and low and behold acidic solutions contract the cuticle. The author wrote it, not me....Wow!
Let me give her a little credit and research her statement. Can overly porous hair be repaired? [end research question]
