Iris, thanks for sharing this very powerful and personal story. It's a lesson for all of us to be thankful for what we have been given.

There was a point when I really kind of envied ladies with long wavy hair. The kind of hair I'm talking about I would usually see on Hispanic women. I even would sometimes compliment them on their hair and add, "When I get to heaven, I'm going to ask the Lord to give me beautiful wavy hair like yours." Their hair looked so easy to manage and lovely.

But you know what? I have come to love and appreciate my own hair. African-American hair, whether coarse, wavy, or straight, is so versatile and interesting. And since I've been taking better care of my hair, it has rewarded me by growing and becoming more manageable.

Nope. No more hair envy for me. I'm too busy diggin' on what's coming out of my head!!
