Gotta have my layers! (Pics)

I can't help it, I love having layers in my natural hair! I did my 3 month SELF trim a week earlier than scheduled (I was bored last night lol) and decided to go in a little more on the layers. They are fun when it comes to styling and I feel they are truly a reflection of my personality :) I didn't cut too much (because I am trying growing it out) but I attempted to add more shape and layers to my hair than my first self trim. Most of the trimming went on in the top of my hair and I lightly dusted the longest back layer of it to keep the length. I blew my hair out first, no real technique just guessed based on what I invisioned the shape to be. One I washed it out and got it back in it's curly state, if there are some stray curls that looked like they were "out of place" *snip! snip!* lol. How my hair would look straightened now is a whoooole other story lol. Since I don't really wear it straight, I'm not too concerned. I feel like I can go even a little shorter on the bang part, but will try to hold off...maybe next time.

So here are my July 4th self trim/layers!

Good job and I like your hair. I always self trim - it saves me the aggravation of going to a salon and coming away mad coz someone took off too much.

I like what I can see of your t-shirt.

I LOVE layers in natural hair. (relaxed hair too). I'm a self cutter/trimmer as well and I think it's the best showcase for the kinks & coils. Gives it more personality and makes it fall better IMO.

I've been thinking about trimming more off the back/crown, but like you I'm conflicted b/c I'm supposed to be growing it out.

I got around the whole "growing out" out thing by leaving the longest layer alone lol. Still have the length for the most part, but more volume and shape :)

meant to come back yesterday to add this, but here's the link to the company I got the shirt from. It's called Minoritees http://minoritees.com

I've gotten a few shirts from them in the past...the one I'm wearing is no longer on their site, I got it a while back, but they regulary put up new designs so I always keep an eye out.

The shape is important. My hair has lost it's shape and is not hanging right. I should have trimmed more while I was growing out. This site has got me paranoid about going to a salon but I'm scared to try too much by myself. Your post gives me some encouragement.

Just take it slow and do a little at a time if you attempt to do it yourself. The first time I did it in April I took my time and was very conservative with how much I trimmed off. This time around I got a little more aggressive, but still took my time and didn't rush anything. I did a little first run through, then went back over areas I thought I could trim a little more layers in.
