my curls have no shape, any one with layers?

My hair is all one layer v cut and when it's curly it hangs straight down and kind of makes a triangle shape. Its irritating. I'm afraid to get layers because my hair is very thin and I worry about the bottom layer being see thru.

I also wear my hair in a but majority of the time so I dont know how layers would work.

Any advice?
