bumping and wanted to add a style I did last week on vacay:

This is an updo I did quickly, it was 3 braids, one on top and 2 in the back, and I just rolled them into a side bun. I'd never done this before but I kinda dig it and may start playing with things like this.

These styles look amazingly good, but I think you have to be apl or beyond to get the wow factor that you guys all have going on! Just tried whimsy's number 8 style, looks okish on me.

you can make the 8 look bigger by aerating it, or rolling your hair around a sock or something. When my hair was shorter i'd fake volume any way i could.
