God and Race Mixing

Where in the Bible does it say/reference that God did not intend for the races to mix? A girl in my class just said this and now I'm curious as to where she found that.

I don't believe there is anything in the bible about racemixing
It's not mixing the races that is bad - it's the mixing of unbelievers with believers.

I don't know of any such scripture, but I do know that many people use the "unequally yoked" to say that it means there should be no race mixing.

She might be referring to the old testament where God told the Israelites not to marry women from the lands they conquered.

Ex. Deut. 7: 3

".. 3 Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son. 4 For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods;.."

Within the context of those verses and the entire chapter its clear that God is most concerned with the impact of the worship of foreign gods on the spiritual legacy of the Israelites, not the fact that they are different "races".

Ask the girl in your class to provide a doctrinal basis for her beliefs.. either way it's probably not worth dwelling long on her foolishness. But maybe God will use you through this interaction (I'm trying to remember that it's all about the kingdom and the heart, even when people are being ignorant or incredibly annoying *sigh*)

I have never seen that in the bible. I also suggest have her show you this chapter and verse in the bible.

There have been mixed raced marriages from the beginning of the bible to the end of it.

God only discusses not mixing with others when it came to idolotry and other gods.

Not mixing with unbelievers.

Rebel or obedient, any color, He made us all.

Act.
17.26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation

Genesis, God created Adam and took Eve from his rib. There're only two parents. We're all brethern. :lachen: People are just so racist and try to get God onboard to take away their guilt. Wow.

I'm in the "deep south" and I get this quite a lot. Some go so far as to say it is not Christian to marry outside of your race, at least to marry a black person anyway. Some white people consider Asians white. Yes they do. And therefore it's okay to marry someone of Asian ancestry. But because of racial issues here, you will not often hear white people who consider themselves Christian condoning the marriage of a black person to a white person. I remember when Jordan Sparks won American Idol, there were many whites here angry about that because she's mixed race (black and white). When a person is hostile towards someone, they often try to find a scripture to back up, not what God says, but their own opinion.

Please tell me you're not in NOLA, Shreveport or Beaumont, TX. Please:sad:

As mentioned above God specified that the Isrealites did not mix with others, this was to preserve their culture and religion. (which was pretty successful considering that we view the Jews as a race/culture and a religion though I cant think of any other people that we do that with.)
In OT times it was imperative that the Jews stand out as different from other nations, as Gods chosen people (another reason why there were so many laws and customs about "simple" rituals). God adopted a chosen people because in those times each nation had its own god over its land, a geographical location, and was assigned to a specific culture. So God chose a people to be His nation to introduce Himself eventually as being the God of All. But he didnt allow intermingling because of the pratices of those other nations (one of which was to accept that there were other valid gods of other nations-pluralism,)
Also when you marry you become one with that person and we see the downfall of the wisest man on earth, Solomon, attributed to the influence of his pagan wives. But like I said, this was for a specific nation at a specific time.

People seem to forget that Moses was in a mixed marriage-his wife was Ethiopean and he was Jewish. If race mixing was a problem, there would have been no way that God would have chosen Moses to lead his people. Furter more, when his sister had something to say about her sister-in-law she was struck with leprosey. Its funny how people only read what they want to in the bible.

Very well said... they had to keep the bloodline pure, because Jesus was to be born of this bloodline. :yep:

It has nothing to do with race.

I think your classmate misinterpreted scripture. I would've dismissed what she said with a quickness.

OT: Wow really? Sorry to hear that.:perplexed I too live in the deep south at this time but my experiences have not been like that. I have visited, lived in, and or worked in most of the US and have had an opportunity to travel outside of the country a few times as well. What I have found is that type of ignorance is not more pronounced according to region. Racism can be found everywhere.:ohwell: I have been in places like DMV, Manhattan, FL, and out west and seen/ experienced racism. They express it differently but it's all the same IMHO. TBH the most blatant racism I experienced was while I was in Iowa. The only AAs they had ever seen were on TV but that's a story for another thread.:yep:
OP: ITA with the others here. God did not and still does not want his children getting mixed up with unbelievers. What about Rahab (Joshua 6) the whore who is an ancestor of Jesus too? She was not born Jewish. There are many people who were not born Jewish/ Hebrew but they converted and seriously followed the Lord and all was well. If the girl from your class cannot produce scripture to back up what she is saying (and she can't b/c it doesn't exist, nor is it implied)then we know she is speaking from a place of ignorance. Perhaps if you feel led you can share with her any of the many passages where people married other races but share that in each of these instances the couples diligently followed God.

I've also used this example when discussing inter racial marriages. Some have said, "Just because Moses sinned, does that mean you are to sin also". Someone even went as far as to say that this particular Ethiopean woman was not black, that she was decended of another ancestry. And I honestly did not know enough about it to make an argument at that point.

OT: @Prudent1. Yes, I agree racism is in different areas, but expressed in various ways in different regions. That was just an example of my experience and things I still hear, having grown up in the South and having lived here all my life.

You know I remember my father telling me this when I was a teenager. (He just found out I was dating a white guy).

My mom look at my father like.....:perplexed because she's 25% white.

LOL!!!!
