This is EXACTLY my concern and I was just reading through before I posed my question. I am still trying to figure out what the benefit of not combing is. I'm just not getting it. It seems it would be more detrimental to not detangle the hair daily with a safe comb. What I visualize is the newgrowth getting tangled and the hair that is supposed to be shed being tangled as well, therefore causing more breakage. I know this can't possibly be true because it seems others are having success using this method. But I need someone to explain this to my logical thinking mind. :p

BTW, I'm not a serial comber or styler. My hair is usually in a ponytail and I only comb once a day to put it into that ponytail. I always use a large tooth comb and a denman brush. I do lose some hair, but I think it's normal. Someone please set me straight. Nevertheless, I will try this for one wash cycle and see how it all pans out. :)

Hey ladies!!! Glad we're continuing this challenge!

I notice that if I don't detangle my hair for a few days I'll have increased shedding when I get ready to wash my hair. If I don't rollerset my hair, I usually wash every day, use tons of slip conditioner so I can detangle in the shower and braid or twist my hair. Keeps it from getting tangled. If I rollerset, my hair stays pretty straight since I wrap it at night, this also keeps it from getting tangled.

are you sure that because you are not combing everyday that when you finally do gt around to detangling it seems like you are shedding more but actually arent. i wouldnt think that simply not combing or brushing could make a person shed more...but who knows i could be wrong cuz i never thought i could grow my hair either

Sadly my hair has been breaking off badly.:( I'm 12 weeks post m y relaxer so i've been struggling to keep up with it. My mom scheduled me an appointment for tuesday....but i'm afraid that i'll have to get about 1.5-2 inches cut off  ....and i just made it to armpit.:nono: On a positive note i know quality is better than quantity, so getting my hair back healthy is my first priority.

I just keep fine tuning my hair regime to eliminate all unnecessary steps, mimimize any combing and manipulation and maintaining protective styling. It's working and my hair is growing better and stronger all the time. bonjour

All is well for me too! I updated my regimen to once a week washing in the shower. That way I don’t have to comb much when I style on Sundays. My washing starts on Friday nite with a pre-poo of cholesterol with a baggie treatment. Saturday I wash and let my hair air dry (with moisturizer and sealer) until Sunday. Sunday b4 Church I will gather all my hair back into a ponytail, moisturize, seal and place my ends in a baggie.

To neaten it up a bit I will either lightly brush or comb (with a fine too and only the top layer). Next I cover my ends with a baggie and put my phony pony on top!

I wear my hair like that until my next washing with no combing or bushing in between. Every nite I will moisturize and seal and tie it down.

This is working great for my hair but I think I’m going to try braid-out soon. I think my hair needs the air.

Hi ladies - I know I am super late, but I would like to join this challenge. Henrietta and a few other people told me about it. My hair is in Crowning Glory (Robin Woods) braids right now, so I've got the no manipulation thing ok. I'll have to exercise restraint when they come out though.

Well ladies, with the year coming to an end and so has the challenge.

Can you please post how this challenge has helped you?

For me it showed me that taking care of my hair is best done without a comb. My hair is a lot thicker than when we started and growning like WEED!

Happy New Year!

Please add me to the list. I am 10 weeks post relaxer. I want to reach APL by the end of April and hopefully BSL by the end of this year.

Thanks

Okay. More on the fine tuning. Now I am doing a once winter care program.
once a week: one thorough shampooing, long rinse out with warm water; apply Le Kair cholesterol for about 4 hours; rinse well and apply pure coconut oil, comb out and pin back to ear level and apply silk scarf. Allow to dry. Then wear it loose for the day and then add coconut oil and tie back with scarf again. I overnight baggie for full day baggie about 5 x a week adding to coconut oil after the baggie is remove. When it air dries, it opens up like a flower to get some oxygen and reveal its thickness. If feels good to just hang loose sometimes. I use a Doogrow-MN scalp booster 3x a week, very very light touch or alternate with homemade MTG. Hair feels very strong.bonjour

How well does this MN/doo-grow combo work?

Just been doing it for one week. So I should try it for a month and see if anything is happening. At least it is not giving me headaches! Doo Grow has petroleum in it but I am applying it so lightly, with small amounts of DG mixed with 3 tubes of Monistat 3. So we play the waiting game. bonjour

Mahalialee, please do keep us posted on your results. I read the original posts on this subject, and the girl stated they used bergamot (the 'blue' grease) along w/the Monistat. The Doo Grow is probably much better for the scalp than the "blue grease".....
