Others are welcome as I hope to keep this thread going for the length of the challenge (3 months). --Extented to the end if the year as of 9/18/2006!

The
Plan:
  • Absolutely No (this means you! ) combing dry hair.
  • A comb can be use when conditioner (and lots of it ) is applied to detangle.
  • A comb can be used to rollerset (wet hair only ).
  • Your regular maintenance plan still applies
How often you wash is up to you. We already know that no manipulation grows hair so you have nothing to lose.

How is everyone doing so far?

I decided that since my newgrowwth is outta control ( i'm only three weeks post relaxer, that darn biotin:cool: ) I am only going to wash once per week. I am having problems tangles that only co-washing and tlc can help lol!

I love to wash twice per week so something may have to give! I love the smell of fresh hair.

Anways, any updates, I know we just started but I am still curious?

I've been doing well (I think I've been on this for a week so far).

I wore a bun and baggie last week. I'm wore an updo this weekend and today...thought it's looking a little toe up because I'm not using any heat therefore my texlaxed hair is making me look like I need a touch up bad...although I'm only 5 weeks post.

Anyway I think I'm going to go back into a bun because I can slick that back with some S-curl and my hands.

Have you tried Sylver2's method of airdrying with a silk or satin scarf? That gets my edges very straight!

Also, I found that using Scurl during wash day (before I add my scarf) only makes my hair very wavy and it doesn't allow it to dry straight. Have you tried using a little bit of serum on those edges, adding a scarf, and letting it dry overnight. The results are brilliant!

When I do use heat, I will air dry like this! Makes the edges so much straighter than blow drying! :D

Great tips. I will have to try this next week.

Well I made it thru week 1 without any failure. This week I am rockin twists in the front and curly in the back. This is the first time I had my hair done like this. I just glad I don't have to do much to it. This style is helping my to stretch anohter weeks. I am currently 11 weeks post. I thought I would be able to make it 16 weeks this time but 3 months is my breaking point!

Avoiding the comb is not as hard as I thought! Of course I had to hid my coimb but finger combing is great for relaxiing!

I checked out the calendar and this challenge will be over August 14, 2006 (counting by the weeks and not days).

Let's grow girls:grin: So far so good. I wash every 3-4 days. Some days I just apply Profectiv, Salerm 21 or Silk Elements all around my french twist and go, other days I moisturize and wig it. It is amazing how well my 4a/4b hair slicks back without a comb! My goal is to be like Isis and give up the blow dryer forever - I want my hair to look like hers too:lachen:

im going ok (just started on sunday lol)... i washed out my press on sunday and co-washed with motions cpr - i left it on my braided hair (in 8 sections) for 1hour with a hot towel. my hair came out silky and soft. i added nexxus headress and alittle frizz-ease serum. the next day my hair feels good and its behaving well.:p
i wont comb it again till thursday when i wash it again- i think i may do a coconut/lime treatment (iv been readint the recipe borad and have come up with a new coconut'potion :D )
wish me luck...

i hope everything is going good for everyone else too:)

Welcome femalegold & LondonDive. I've added you both to the list!
Feel free to share you processes and frustrations!

All is well for me, but this is a really easy hair week for me. Not sure of the name of the style but its like the twist braid in the front and curls in the back. Very easy to maintain.

Everything has been going great so far.Losing the comb wasn't so hard:D I think I'm going to have to wash weekly though so that I can detangle and keep more moisture.

HHG Ladies:)

I've been off the comb for months now, and I love using my fingers to style my hair. What made it easier for me was that I was stretching my hair and I couldn't put a comb through it at all.

I joined the challenge because since I've relaxed my hair and straightened it a couple of times with the flat iron, I have been tempted to comb it. I saw the signs, and decided to get help before I got out of control! :look:

Hello everyone. Am new here and lately been rocking bantu knots so I would love to try this no combing/brushing hair. count me in:grin:

I would love to join too . I am currently only 5 weeks post but I am experimenting with new hairstyles like the curls I get from doing bantu knots ;). I know it will be a little tough since I am trying to stretch to 12 weeks  and I have 7 weeks to go.

Count me in! This week I tried to go as long as possible without combing and it wasn't too hard. I usually wrap my hair at night so figuring out what to do with it at night was a problem. I decided to do my "stocking method" (baggie method but with the foot of a stocking instead). I do have one question for you ladies though, how do you get your hair to lay down in a ponytail without combing it or brushing it? If I had a soft boar bristle brush could I use this? Generally I am good until it gets hot; the scarf that I sleep in usually lays my hair down but in the hotter months the humidity kills it. Also, how do you ladies dry your hair? Is it easier to do this type of challenge when you dry/set your hair a certain way??

My hair was looking "toe up"as well..My girlfriend asked me if it was time for a relaxer because my hair was "swollen" ..lol...I think I`m going to have to get braids so I can stay in this challenge

i'm so glad so many of you have limited the comb, its great! To me combing is a fun experiences as my curls unleash and u see how my growth you've had!!

GHLW will be fuin as i've added a new vit and completely sticking to one line of products. so if it 3 months when do we end again? (september?) thanks! xx

Ok, sounds good everyone!! (Been out of touch, under the weather :( ) So far I've only been washing maybe once a week, co-washing 2-3 times a week. French-braiding every since I've started this challenge and it's been working out pretty well. I'm not planning to check my progress until about July or Aug., so we'll see how well things are going.

Practice is the only answer I have 4ya! I had this same problem when I started but with time I got better.

Just work slowly thru your hair trying not to tug or pull your tresses! Once you get it all back tie it down.

HTH!

I was a bit discouraged b/c I just did a TU and my hair looks the same length as my last TU so I am hitting the protective styles (PS), Baggie Method (BM - lol) hard, and CW's.

I am really doing good with the 'no combing' so I should be proud with my next TU.

I decided not to sweat it and just learn from my mistakes!

BTW - The challenge will be over August 22, 2006 (that should be right at 3 months).

I've been doing really good, my hair is braided/weaved up and I was on vacation for 2.5 weeks on the beach, sun and humidity. I had re-braided just before leaving and I already have some small growth. I only took and used my homade glycerin-aloe spray.

HEY! I wanna join! Let me get this straight, all this challenge is about is not combing/brushing dry hair?

Here a trick I tried yesterday:

Castro Oil. I love the fact that it will thicken my hair but its just too thick to use daily on my fine hair. When I do use it I lose hair along with it from the tugging and pulling to get it on.

I just started using the Baggie Method again and while I was sitting around (most likely lurking LHCF) the thought came to me to try applying the Castro Oil on your hair while it is wet. And sure enough it was a smooth application and no hair lost!

This is now part of my nightly routine!

Thanks I was wondering when it ends.
I'm doing great with this challenge. No comb has touched my head, well I did use the shower comb to scratch my scalp.(I hope that don't count)
Anyway, I haven't seen much progress with growth, but I think it's still too early to make a solid judgement. HHG all! :)
