I LOVE my hair cut. I love it so much that I actually don't want it to grow. Unfortunately it does. Someone asked me earlier if I get relaxers more often and I said no but my hairdresser doesn't see it that way. She sent me an e-mail telling me to make an appointment for a touch-up next week when I go back. It has only been four weeks since my last touch-up. As a matter of fact, last week when I went to the salon for a trim and style, she told me I should've made an appointment for a relaxer instead. I don't like relaxing my hair this often but I'd have to. It just fits the cut better if my hair is bone straight all the time.

My plan was to leave my hair short until the end of the summer but my hair grows a mile a minute in the summer (and these trims are NOT cheap!). So I have decided to grow it out now. Maybe I will leave it short for the rest of the spring but I am not going to fight nature this summer. That is a definite! I haven't even begun to think about HOW I am going to grow it out. I was just going to not go back for trims but looking at the layers, I don't think it is going to look cute as it grows out. I know there are a few ladies here who are currently growing out a short cut, but has anyone done it already? How does one grow out a short layered cut? How long did it take to get from there to your current length? Do I have to get braids? Wouldn't I have to cut it all off again at some point to even it out? If so, when is the best time to even out the hair? Early on or after it reaches shoulder length? I have more questions but that's all I can think of for now. Thank you in advance!

Well believe it or not when my hair was short I went to a man that had a barbershop and did women's hair (licensed beautician). I cut my hair once every two weeks and since it was always short I didn't need relaxers any more often. I never got a "halo" light relaxer touch up of the new growth every 4 weeks. Then I relaxed every 6-8 weeks. I didn't have any problems.
Growing it out was not fun!

I simply grew out the top first and kept the back short (not shaved but very low) once the top was all one length my hairdresser (she was good) kept the back and front "in sync" and kept the length even all around. I wanted to scream when it was ear length. I hated the look and couldn't pull it back but I resolved that by not looking in the mirror!

Good luck!
FYI I wouldnt recommend all the frequent relaxers-trims yes relaxers......

I would think twice if I were you!

Wow, thanks Jen. I totally missed this thread even though I really should have read this before I cut my hair. I cut my hair right around the time of your post. How embarassing.

Someone just recommended that, because I want to go natural, I should just cut my relaxed hair off now and grow it all out natural. I still have not decided but the other thread helped me. Thank you again!
