Flat iron damage!

TRANSITION OVER! 11-22-14
 I was messing around yesteday w my solia and tried to flat iron the side of my hair. Big mistake. As I was trying to style it after CWing, I noticed that my hair is strait thoughout, so now I have to hide it. I'm not cutting my hair again. When will I ever learn.:ohwell:

Wait...so you didn't want your hair straight but you used the Solia? I'm confused. Were you trying to just test a particular area of the hair or what?

You flat ironed right after cowashing?!?!?! :(

DDTexlaxd, I've seen you start so many threads about your frustrations with your hair...You know what you should do???

***JUST SHAVE ALL YOUR HAIR OFF AND START WITH FRESH NEW GROWING HAIR!***

Not trying to be funny because this is what I did... 19 months ago, I shaved all my hair down to less than 1/2 an inch. Now it's growing healthy as ever!!! :)

Listen to Poohbear, she's been through a lot but she has a gorgeous head of hair to show for it!

Not trying to be funny either but honestly, I've found that before I do anything new to my hair, it's best to search through the boards to get good tips on what to do and how best to do it.

Uhh...I'm not understanding your dilemma. You flat ironed part of your hair....You tried to style it and it was straight...You don't want it straight....And this is because you had your hair cut? Was it cut too short?

Is the hair not reverting? Did you wet the hair to see if it will go back to your natural texture? I say do a deep condition and baby your hair for awhile and clip the ends a little at a time until eventually you get all the straight ends. Sometimes it can be a big shock to cut your hair all at one time. I dont really think that cutting your hair at all may be necessary.

why not get some cornrows, braids or kinky twists put in and leaVe them in for a month or 2 - that way your hair will be put away in a protective style and you won't be tempted to mess with it until you get some length and health going on.

best option would be to give you and your hair a rest from each other. i think you're trying to do too many things with it in too short a period of time and you're frustrating yourself and possibly damaging your hair.

growing it out is gonna take a heck of alot of patience.

do you know a salon or braiders that can do some nice braids or kinky twists (check out londondiva's style for the twists, those are bangin!)?

only other alternative is do what poohbear suggested and do a big BC and start with fresh, new growth.

good luck gal.

The only reason I suggested cutting her hair is because it's relatively short at the present moment after checking out her fotki album. It really wouldn't hurt to do a very low cut based on her current length. I shaved my hair off when it was 3-4 inches in length and only part of my hair was heat damaged. By this time next year, she could have at least 6 inches or more of healthy natural hair. During next year, she could take care of it while it's short by cowashing or rinsing. Once she gets a good amount of length, she could do various other styles besides the wash n go. I also suggested for her to cut it because from previous threads she's started, she has gone back and forth between relaxing, cutting, texturizing, cutting, and going natural on her hair which can take a toil on one's hair. ;)
But you're right, it can be a shocker. I'm glad I managed to get through it. I just always kept in mind what would be best for the health and appearance of my hair and stopped worrying about reaching a certain length by a certain date.

Sorry, but I'm still trying to learn...what's wrong with flat ironing after you cowash? Is it because the hair isn't dry yet so it "bakes" the hair (like when you bake custard or creme brulee and you surround it with hot water and then put it in the oven)?

D--It may revert. But try hiding the difference in textures with braidouts & twistouts, you can slowly snip the straight hair.

To the people who don't understand what she is saying- she essentially burned her hair straight, that's the problem

It also sounds like she found out it was heat damaged after CWing it, and not that she conditioner washed right before flat ironing (although I could be reading that wrong). If you don't want to chop again, just trim regularly--every mistake is a lesson! Good luck hun!

I'm sorry, guys! I was so panicked when I typed it, I didn't type it right. I was trying to flat iron my hair, but it didn't work. My hair was a puffy mess. So I deep conditioned and CWD it. When it was drying, I noticed that I had strait pieces thruoghout my hair.:( I snipped alot off, but my hair looks like it did when I was texturized. It does not look horribly damaged. maybe I can just keep DCing it and babying it. Thanks for all your kind posts and sorry for the mix up Poohbear. I know you were trying to help me. I think Heat only worked for my relaxed hair. Now I have to try and learn how to work with my natural hair.

That is what I did too. However I did flatiron a small section of my hair to check for length (shrinkage is crazy) a few months ago but haven't even thought about it since. Cutting all my hair off has been great for my hair's health. I just want it grow back. Your hair grew back great Poohbear. You're a great natural inspiration :)
