Extra Softening Effects of Constant CWs??

Hi ladies

Of you who do regular conditioning washes have you noticed any changes in your hair related to softening? I have been doing conditioning washes for about 2 months now. I noticed at this point my hair is super soft. I shampooed 2 days ago for the first time in 2 months with Lanza's Protein Plus, but my hair did not harden up. I am wondering should I be worried about the soft state of my hair, I don't want it to get so soft that it starts to break when wet. I have not yet washed with a clarifying poo.

I need suggestions & help.

Thanks

Hey!

I CO wash once a week and poo once a week. My hair has gotten much softer since I've been doing this, and I've noticed that I'm not fighting with my new growth or trying to drown it in moisture. The new growth actually feels conditioned and it's SO cooperative.
I have found that since doing CO washes I need to clarify every 2 weeks or so just to avoid buildup.
In order to keep your hair from getting too soft, I would say just do regular protein treatments the way you would if you weren't CO washing. I've found that the combination of moisture & conditioning from CO washing and my bi-weekly protein treatments has left my hair very strong and very elastic.

Hey Girl

CW are a god send. My hair has not been softer. I am 4 type fine hair so I really have to watch the softness. But as long as its soft and moisturised and not breaking I dont see a problem.

Things that I have learned when dealing with softer hair is

I never brush at all
I never comb or brush went wet
I dont blowdry

If the con has done is job it really softened my hair so if I do the above straight after I am gonna end up loosing more hair then ness.

IMO, the way to con wash frequently (a few times a week or daily) without getting buildup or overconditioned hair is to either rotate your conditioners as others have suggested, or to just use a conditioner that is more balanced to begin with. I love Jason Sea Kelp conditioner because it is a great moisturizer, but I wouldn't use it for con washes every day for weeks on end because I think that would be too much. However, I WOULD use Jason Biotin conditioner every day for weeks on end (and I have done so before) because it has a much more balanced mixture of moisture and strength and won't overdo anything.

Also, I think your technique matters as well. Some co washers literally use conditioner the way they would use shampoo, and then follow with a regular conditioning. Since I do mine every day, I actually just rinse thoroughly and then condition as usual, as I think that using conditioner twice would be too much for my fine hair.
I shampoo usually once, sometimes twice per week with a mild shampoo, and haven't had any problems with buildup or overconditioning. I actually haven't clarified in over a year now, although I'm planning to get a clarifier for days when I plan on deep conditioning to see if it improves the results of the deep con. I do use a mild protein (Elucence EMRT), although not on a particular schedule. I estimate that I use it about 2-3 times per month.

I just decided to switch my CW conditioner because my hair was getting too soft (and flat).

I use Kenra MC now...which like Humectress has done is the past, leaves my hair too soft and overly conditioned. (and Kenra has protein ...plus I do Emergencee for 20 minutes weekly.)

Soft is nice, but it doesn't hold a curl as well and just has less body.

So, I've decided to go back to my Robert Craig moisturizing conditioner. It got my hair very hydrated and moist without oversoftening. I daily wash for moisture. That's my primary aim ..not softness. I should be able to comb while wet and have fantastic body while daily washing. (I feel MTG is overconditioning my hair as well - while drying it out too ..when this bottle is done I'm over MTG)

I want my body back...so I have to save Kenra for intermittent use.
