Don't kill me ladies! But why is Sasha and Mahlia's hair not longer than apl?

It's crazy how on this board when ladies complain about their hair not being longer, a lot of people reply with "take care of it and make sure it's healthy, length will come"/"health before length". Obviously Michelle and their grandma, and whoever else is taking care of their hair and it's healthy. Not everyone is obsessed with length and hair like us (and obviously some of us care more than others ).

Are we really criticizing a 7 and a 9 year old girl's hair? I mean, are you really? Believe it or not, a 7 and 9 year old should not be concerned about whether or not their hair is past APL. They should be concerned about being little girls, and in my opinion, I think that obsession with such things at that age is not appropriate.

In addition, Michelle, being a working mother, a lawyer, wife to such an accomplished man, I doubt that her priorities include the length of her children's hair. She has done a MARVELOUS job at doing what she is supposed to do, which is raise some beautiful and refined children. Have you seen the older daughter, have you really ever looked at her. She is already a president's daughter. She is so refined, sits up straight, and is already a beautiful young lady. It is impressive. Michelle is not a stupid woman, she has her priorities straight. Many of us black women need to emulate her and the example that she has set for her two daughters. And trust me, it aint about their hair.

I myself, went to one of the top 5 schools in the country. Went to one of the top twenty med schools, and frankly, my hair was not a priority when I was in school. Now that i am done, I have time to dedicate to it. Trust me, the Obamas have their priorities straight, they have their stuff together, so don't anyone wonder about their hair cause if they dont care, then frankly, we shouldn't.
This post should end the thread. This shut it down. The bolded was what I was trying to express, but poorly worded. Her time and energy is directed to different matters than most "regular" women.

Maybe they purposely keep their hair at that length. Not all black people are always trying to grow their hair as long as it will go. When I was a little girl, my mom kept my hair just below my shoulders (she'd get our hair trimmed regularly), because she'd never really mastered combing our hair and I assume was overwhelmed.

Thats going to make a fantabulous t-shirt.

To be honest:

I would be lying if Sasha didn't help influence my vote for Barack.

How can you not vote for the man who made this bit of sassy cuteness?:look::lachen::lachen::lachen:

And there you go. ~waving~ Hey chica:)

Well now that everyone knows who I am now :look:, let me answer the question. All 3 of my girls have 3 different textures. As they grow, the texture changes sometimes breaking off either for good reason (stronger more permanent hair texture coming through), or for bad ones such as needing protein etc. I am going through this with D. Her hair needs a lot more protein than the other two and has suffered breakage recently. I take very good care of their hair but despite doing so, she suffered a minor setback. Most people wouldn't notice it but I do because I'm mom. My oldest has fast growing hair like mine. She had a bc a few years ago and now her hair is past the other 2. Some mothers also trim their girls hair to a more manageable length esp if you deal with a child that has tangles and is tenderheaded like my oldest. Some kids hair just grows slower. I say as long as it's healthy and cared for I don't see a problem with the length. HTH Q

I'm so jealous. You needed to help my mother growing up. I used to get picked on and laughed at for my hair growing up. Que: Where were you when I needed you:cry:

Pretty much. And, then have the audacity to say that they are not catty.:perplexed

Reality check people:

The Obamas is not your family. Barack is not your homie-lover-friend. You do not know him or his children. And, I don't mean to be rude, but some of y'all need a big dose of STFU. Please don't make me remind you of the MLK children fiasco and how folks on this board were ready to put the one of the greatest leader's on earth's offspring through the ringamaroe. Y'all talked about their love affairs, why it took this son so long to get married, how you heard about his 7-11th child's bastard baby and blah de blah.

And I WISH someone would come up in here with that "I don't talk about babies." You were saying all that when you were ripping Heidi Klum and Seal a new one, or Kobe's wife, or any other biracial, tri-racial, quadroon kids to shreads.

I swear...

OP, grow a backbone and hand them their own arses on a platter. She just asked a danggone question, and I've seen dumber things from other folk's keystrokes.

Imo the thread doesn't make sense. It would have made sense if their hair was damaged. They both have full heads of healthy hair. They both look happy, healthy and well groomed from head to toe.

The reason she got this type of response is because there is no issue with the way these girls look. They look like well taken care of little girls.

What are they supposed to look like? Mini Tyra Banks? Classic length, silky straight hair 24/7? Couture clothing? Full make up?

That was my point anyway.

The whole homie lover thing... :giggle: No, I do not personally know Barack Obama or his children just the same way you don't know MLK's children. But here we are speaking up on their behalf.

I don't see how anyone can look at your children and see anything else.

Girl I was growing up too. I am not that much older than you. I was just fast and had my 3 right away. But shoot I made some mistakes along the way with them too. But you live and you learn you know. Just be thankful you now have the info to help your future dd's and to pass along to others. Each one, teach one. Q

this thread is a disappointment.

yes, i said it.

edited to add: i think it's strange when grown women start criticizing small children's well-kept hair. unless it's falling out or full of dirt or something, shouldn't children be off limits?

And she got responses. One can't expect to ask a question, and not get different kinds of responses. I mean she even started it with "Don't kill me ladies". She knew it would be controversial. Controversy is not a bad thing, but you need to be able to handle the comments if you are going to ask the questions.

Hmmm...I never questioned the length of their hair, to me, as far as the length and health of their hair, they are way ahead of the game. This is compared to a lot of little girls that I see personally with thinning edges, hair barely ear-length, and the too grown weave ponytails that their moms let them sport.

They are the cutest little girls and I love them to death but when they get their hair straightened I am just shocked. With top stylists available to them how come their hair isn't longer? Most of us on the boards at that age can all vouch for longer tresses and we had kitchen beauticians ( our moms) doing our hair.

Maybe we need Michelle to become a member of LHCF. We can then advise her to start weekly deep conditioning on the girls and more moisture/ protective styles.
hm.

  • maybe they dont want it longer.
  • maybe longer hair would be too much of a hassle for Michelle to do it when their stylist cant
  • Maybe the kids prefer it that length
  • Maybe they dont even care about length.
I wish my hair looked like that growing up. If people clown thier hair they should have seen mine when I was growing up. My hair was so chick up :nono:

I've seen their hair straightened and it really isn't all of that. Does it need to be? No! Not at all. They probably had a lot of shrinkage on that day. But, this IS A HAIR FORUM and we've never been nice to celeb babies or celebs in general. If you ask me, we have waaaay more blasphemous threads floating around, such as folks clowing biracial babies solely because their mother's are white; people carrying on as if brangelina is the second coming of christ because they adopted ONE african baby; folks disrespecting other member's SOs for being any other race than black. Yes! I'll take it aaaaall the way back for LHCF was highly-censored.

Lets stop acting like the Obama children are off-limits. Don't disrespect anyone's baby period, even if it's Mini Sasha F-Baby or Seal's Monster's Inc. kid.

Some of y'all need to stop acting indignant like you've never said anything wrong about anyone on this board.

I can only speak for myself...it's not about Obama's children, but children in general. Sometimes I just think we take the hair thing too far. It just FEELS wrong to me, and if I have participated in it in the past ( I truthfully can't remember), then I don't want to do it in the future. Grown women criticizing beautiful children for something so small...it just feels low to me. Again, this is my opinion. OP has her right to ask any question on the board she wants.

lol, I think Angie lost her "second coming" card (never knew she had one) when she never learned how to comb Z's hair :look:

I will give this to you... from the SMALL amount I've seen and heard about off topic and entertainment... sometimes yall get crazy. Too crazy for Neith

However, I'm not one of them. If there were always posts like that in this section I probably wouldn't be a member here. I think I have one thread started in off topic. Zero in entertainment. So, no... everyone who responded negatively is the type of person you're describing.

Even if we all were that way (which I will repeat is not the case)...

As nasty as we may be, there will always be someone who we feel is off limits for a number of personal reasons. If enough of us agree, then it's your arse on the spitfire instead of the celebrity :gotroasted:

Especially when those girls have longer hair then many members on this board.
Admit it: you just mad Michelle is taking better care of their hair then your momma ever did yours:lachen:

Those girls have beautiful hair and are a great example of how to properly care for black hair

which is unfair. Yes, the question is a bit... unique. But, this lync hmob needs to stop. Its just a question. Carry on tho.

Had to stop munching on my healthy almonds long enough to say...
good post Neith.

Nicely said and pretty much sums up the description for most of us.

One.
