I know this is against the great hair care rules but I have to tell it. I have been trying to tame my daughters hair for a long time now. Well, right after my new daughter was born, my cousin braided my 4 year olds hair and she used Crown Royal. She showed me the jar and it had only 3 ingredients: Petroleum, olive oil, and fragrance. But her 3 daughters hair is gorgeous and that is all she uses on thier hair along with Miricle Cream (whatever that is). Anyways, after she braided my daughters hair, it was jet black and shiney and it held up the braids far longer than anything else that I have tried on her hair. I know Petroleum is a definate no-no, but it worked so well!! I even used it on her hair when I re-braided it and I must say I'm thinking about using it all the time. Has anybody had this happen to them? A no-no product that is working it?

ETA: I just saw I put Crown Royal!! I meant Royal Crown!

Petrouleum jelly is natural I believe so it is good it may clog pores but if you use a little it is effective and has worked for years.

All I can say is if it's working then continue using it, I would rather use it on the hair and not the scalp, since the hair is what your trying to tame, and use a natural oil on the scalp.
I remember back in the day everyone used blue magic or the green grease, along side was a cup of water and a brush, . And everybody had gorgeous thick, long and soft hair, it's when the child was old enough to start messing in their own hair everything went down the drain.

Girl, you NEVA had to take me that far back! LOL!

I grew up on Royal Crown Hair Dressing. As a child, that was all my mother used and my hair was always mid-back to waist length until I got into different styles in high school and college. It always worked great. But, I also wore my hair mostly braided or up-dos and was pretty low manipulation.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I think the key to using any product is to treat it like a scientific experiment. If you see any negative effects, stop using it, but until then...

I think my hair loves all the wrong stuff. Grease and water actually worked great for my hair. Back in tha day I was the Dax green grease girl. Held up my hair pretty well.

Yeah, my mom bought out the blue magic, water, and brush for me too!

I only use it on her hair (Royal Crown) and Scalpicin on the scalp cuz she has some dandruff. Thats working like a charm too,

Growing up...my momma wasnt paying attention to nobodys ingredients list and I had BEAUTIFUL hair...so I say keep with it...MY HAIR LOVES MOTIONS CPR and it has mineral oil...but when I stopped using it...MY HAIR PROTESTED!! So now...I am going to continue using it and just make sure I clarify monthy....

I would say that if you do continue to use Crown Royal...use a clarifying shampoo or ACV rinse at least once a month (or more frequently)..so that if the petroleum does clog...they at least get cleaned out...

Great idea!

i love grease. i've always used it on my hair (petrolatum, mineral oil) and i always will! YES it keeps it shiney and thick at the ends. i wouldn't use it on my scalp to i have a weird scalp..

if i could i would tho!

This is interesting...I've been trying to figure out what to use on my daughter's hair. This board had me totally against using grease, but maybe I'll try it. I grew up on it too, and it worked for me when I had ponytails and braids.

i forgot to add! water in a spray can + grease and a boar brush = slick shiney twists that are pretty enough to wear out and about!

I guess I should confess to, lol

I have been using grease for the last two weeks ONLY on my ends though (nothing touches my scalp). It has been working wonders!!!!

I use it to seal in my leave-in and my hair stays moisturized until the next wash. I also do the baggie method and my ends and me are in love now! I can def. see myself retaining ALL of my length. I use SOFTEE Indiam Hemp grease. I love it! I don't care what anyone says, I will not give it up!

Dang, I know for a fact my dad has a can of Royal Crown in his medicine cabinet right now. He has always used it. Always.

Hey Caish,i think you've found a staple for your daughter , have you thought about using just EVOO?

Bwahahaha. My mom used the cup of water, brush and the Green Dax.

I think that if you wash her hair frequently enough and use good conditioners, your daughter's hair will be fine. My mom did not shampoo and condition my hair with good conditioners. Sometimes she left out the conditioner altogether. Yet, at it's longest, I still managed to have hair around "BSL". You know what you're doing so your baby's hair growth should be consistent.

Blue Magic Coconut Oil grease is one of my favorite products!!! It makes my hair shinier and blacker too... I've been missing it ever since I started my daily wash n go routine :ohwell: ...

...but guess what? :D I put that daily washing routine to the side and used my grease the other day to braid up my hair. Today, I am sporting a big stretched out afro with a scarf band around my edges!!!

ITA. Everything you said here is soo true.I had forgotten about those days. That water, grease, and brush would bring out waves that you didn't even know you had.Maybe using grease wouldn't be a bad idea for my daughters hair to make ponytails. It has worked wonders on the very ends of her hair.

When i was 100% natural i stayed using some grease. I had to problems with it at all. My mothers hair loves mineral oil. Do what works for you.

Have you tried using shea butter on your daughter's hair ? This way you won't risk clogging pores ... Just a thought ...

I broke my normal hair regimen and greased my scalp with La India Wonder Cream and my hair and scalp loved it.

I was going out this weekend and my hair was outta control! Really frizzy and weird feeling. I broke out the Blue Magic and - TA DA - I was hot! My hair was shiny and pretty. My hair really liked it. I wouldnt use it all the time. But I think its ok sometimes.

Yep, I tried it. Didnt work!
Shea butter doesn't work for my natural hair either... I have that 100% pure unrefined shea butter from Nasabb. It left those little balls of butter crumbs in my hair... grease leaves my hair softer and shinier. Now, my hair is in two strand twists... I plan on using grease for life! :weird:

Do what works best for you? I use stuff that the board probably wouldn't approve of. My hair is flourishing.
