Does anyone Clarify once a week?

I recently found clarifying saved my hair from breaking and dryness. I am on a new regimen to make it to armpit. But the summer heat has been frying my hair and making it smellier more often. So this week I washed 2x.

I think the clarifier allows the shampoo and conditioner to work better. I am stretching and not using heat and have been using the products in my signature. I had absolutely no breakage in the comb on a daily basis. In addition I clarified 2x this week: Monday and Wednesday, and my hair was so soft and perfectly moisturized.

Because I don't have a significant amount of length (just shoulder), I can't take chances, and this has been wonderful.

When I my hair was at its healthiest I was using oil every day and every night. But I only clarified once a month. Anymore than that my hair would get REALLY dry, but it never broke off. That might be because I washed my hair every 3 days and I use Quantum salon clarifier. It really works. It works so well it took the black rinse color right off my head!

After I clarified I always did a deep DEEP conditionng, and my hair loved the combination.

I just started using a hard water conditioner twice a week and it haven't needed to clarify. But I will every month.

I guess we really didnt get an answer to this question, but I think logically it would make no sense to prepoo when you are pretty much stripping your hair with clarifying... I could be 100% wrong too

I clarify once a week, I think it's necessary for me. I use Elucence clarifiying shampoo. My hair responds a lot better when I use a clarifying shampoo first.

My only question that I've been wondering about. If I do a prepoo or some type of protein treatment on my dry hair before shampooing? Will the clarifying shampoo strip or eliminate the effects of prepooing?

Yes. I clarify every week to remove buildup from excessive product usage and I do not have any problems because I put the moisture right back in by using moisturizing poo, conditioner deep conditioner, applying leave in conditioner and moisturizer. My products also seem to work better when I clarify and my scalp feels better.

How would someone be able to tell whether they had buildup or not?

What is the distinguishing ingredient to determine what is clarifying?

I can usually tell when My hair is fly away and also common sense wise, I use alot of ingredients with cones, mineral oil and petroleum..

You know you are experiencing buildup when your hair looks dull and no matter how many times you moisturize your hair still remains dry. Some products that were working for you before might seem to stop working but it could be because you need to clarfy inorder for your hair to start responding well to the products. Sometimes your scalp will also become very itchy from product buildup on the scalp.

They make shampoos specifically for clarfying. They normally have citrus ingredients such as lime etc or harsher ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate or ammonium laurly sulfate. You can also go the natural way and just use some baking soda, ACV or lime/lemon juice.

 I thought that would make logical sense too. So, I guess I will leave the protein treatments until after I shampoo. Unless, someone can come along and give me a reason for prepoo before clarifying.

Me personally I rub my finger on my scalp and if I see dandruff (which is buildup for me) or if my finger stinks/newgrowth feel grimy I know it's time to clarify.
