Do you think it's pointless to cowash with other products in your hair?

If you cowash evry day/every other day then use products in between without shampooing the extra products out (gel, curl booster, etc) do you think the cowash is as effective as it could be? I've been doing this and I'm starting to wonder:perplexed

I cowash everyday and I use products everyday to help control the frizz. My hair usually feels "clean" after cowashing. ...

I co-wash with products in my hair. When I feel as if my hair is no longer absorbing the other things that I am using to keep my hair beautiful.... then I know it is time to shampoo. I usually shampoo once a week anyway.

hmm im not sure but i do know that conditioners to have some mild cleansers in them so it really depends on how much product you use in your hair...on a daily basis

Yeah, thats the only setback about co-washing while using lots products. I know if I do use heavy products, I must shampoo or clarify with BS, but if I'm using very little product on my hair, then a co-wash can mildly get rid of some build-up...

What I think is strange is using oils and products on the hair/scalp and no-poo, BS or clarifying of the hair for an entire week to two weeks! co-washing is absolutely pointless if you pile a leave-in, moisturizer, oils, cream, serum, gels etc. all week long, then decide to shampoo. There are some products that co-washing can't get rid of. That's why I shampoo every 2-3 days.

:scratchch Maybe I'll see about that

Here is how I theorize/justify daily cowashes and someone correct me if I am wrong (cause I want to be doing what is right ), unlike most hair types that are oily (and shampoo everyday)...we tend to be dry (need to add daily moisture)...so retaining moisture by using multiple products is beneficial. I think that shampoo's tend to strip the little bit of natural oils that our hair produces and causes more harm than good. :perplexed Professional DIYers, please chime in.....

I co-wash every 3-4 days and usually on my second co-wash, I will clarify with Paul Mitchel shampoo three and that does make a difference.

OT: Brockstar your hair is so pretty.

I think the best situation would be not to use any products in between co-washes, but it's probably not realistic for most people. If i don't use any product on my hair it's not as moisturized nor as defined as I would like it to be. I co-wash at least every other day and I tend to be heavy handed with my products, but my co-washes seeem to work just fine. It's probably because I also shampoo every 3-4 days. It may work better using lighter products and not as much if you still choose to use products, however.

I think it depends on why you're cowashing. I rarely cowash but when I do it's really just to refresh my curls after a few days. Not to keep my hair moisturized or to clean it because it feels dirty. So it doesn't matter to me if there are products in there or not. It's all going to get washed out at the end of the week when I shampoo anyway. My hair doesn't feel totally clean after cowashing either. I still feel the gel in my hair like aroundthe edges. I'd rather just shampoo and DC then cowash. Cowashing doesn't really do anything for me.

Depends on what you mean by "we". My hair is more on the normal side of the scale than it is dry, guess due to co-washing and maintaining my moisture balance. I use Infusium leave-in and Sta-Sof-Fro for moisture, a mix of oils to coat ends, seal with vaseline and baggy. For me, that's a lot of products!

I can't keep these products in my hair longer than 2-3 days. This, for me, blocks the effectiveness of the products and in turn, I waste more product piling on top of old products. I rather wash every 2-3 days. My hair grows faster this way because my scalp is clean and my ends aren't so weighed down by products and sealed out of moisture. I know if I moisturize my hair immediately after shampooing/clarifying, my hair will be ok.
