After you use heat to deep condition, do you let your hair cool down before rinsing? I always do, but I don't know why. Do you think it really makes a difference?

No, I go straight to the wash bowl to get my hair rinsed out. Sometimes i hear the Dominican ladies exclaiming in Spanish and yanking their hands back, because my hair is so warm to the touch. But nope, i dont wait.... they rinse it out with cool water, to close the cuticles back.

i always let my hair cool but I really don't know why!!! I'm interested to hear what the other ladies have to say about it.

When I started to use Sebastian Colourshines, the instructions said to cool for 5 minutes after sitting under the dryer, I figure it must be for a good reason (I dont know the reason though) so Ive been doing it ever since with my conditioners and rinses.

I always let it cool down because my mom always told me not to get in the shower while I'm hot. I need to cool down or I'll get sick. So it became a habit.

I always let mine cool down but that is because I am always multi tasking and never go straight to the shower to rinse.

LOL @ letitia, Same here I'm always doing something else. But even if I'm not I still let it cool, no real reason, but I wonder if it would send the strands into shock, , you know how if you take a hot glass and run it under cold water it can break. Not that the hair would break but ya know what I'm trying to say, I hope :look: .

I cant remember where i got this info from. Probably from cathy howse's website? Well the reason a person should let her hair cool off before rinsing is because you are using the heat source to open the hair cuticles so the conditioner can deeply penetrate the hair. So when you let the hair cool down, then the cuticles close, while still possessing all of the moisture and protein that your conditioner deposited. If you immediately rinse it, without cooling, then your cuticles are still open and you are rinsing out the conditioner from underneath your hair's cuticles. Sometimes i let it cool if i'm not lazy, but at the very least, i do take off my showercap and let it cool during the 2minute walk to the sink... But if i dont let it cool, then i am sure to use cool/cold water to rinse with...

I let my hair cool. If I don't, my scalp goes into to shock or something because the water feels extra cold since my head is so hot.

Same here. I always allow it to cool, but I have no idea why. I guess because I know you're supposed to cool the hair after rollersetting.
