Just wondering. Do you think that's appropriate/inappropriate? Do you consider it invasive? When does google searching go to far? Do any of you do background checks?

Yes. When when I was single, I would definitely google my dates. I don't regret it one bit. Once I found an arrest record. Another time, I found a fb page with "in a relationship" status. And another time I found out a dude was still living with his parents.

Anything that can save you from wasting time while dating is well worth it, IMO. Life is short and nobody has time to play games with Mr. Ex-con, Mr. Cheater, or Mr. Underachiever.... all acting like they're Mr. Right

Yes!

I google them, search Facebook and LinkedIn. I like to verify info and also see if there is anything worth being concerned about.

I Google everyone whom I have a first and last name. If I were dating someone seriously I'd go get a pi or whatever. Crazy people abound.

i only google the ones im super excited about partly because i am dying for more information and partly because im hoping a little to find something to put the kibosh on it. sometimes i google ones im suspicious of just to have a reason not to go out with them (usually nothing turns up). but for the most part, no. i didnt google my last 2 bfs.

I do. Simply because I'm nosy. The ones in the Singles Thread should know this about me :look:

But usually I do just to make sure people are being truthful about at least some things. I don't have facebook or any other social media so it's hard for me to find things out from that avenue. But usually I'll find stuff that people think is hidden. I once found a baby registry/ housewarming registry thingy with this guy and his girlfriend he had just moved in with. I had been on 2 dates with this guy and all the while he was starting a new family. smh

I googled the last two guys I dated, and I think its something every person should do. Google images popped up a few mug shots of one of them...arrested for dwi, possession of illegal substance, and some other stuff. It gave me some incite to whom I was dealing with. The other guy didnt have any mug shots but I found some online dating profiles and his Youtube channel.

Invasive or not, its smart to do a bit of investigating.

This is crazy. A PI? If I ever found out that my man hired someone to check me out I'd dump him before he had a chance to explain. Now if he googles me I'd commend him for doing his research.

I googled this guy I met and I found out everything I need to know.

Oh another guy that I thought about dating I found on a weird porn website. I googled his email address. And found him on all of these teen forums pretending to be 19 years old to talk to teenage girls. Yeah, in that case I was very glad I googled.

Firstly, it was tongue in cheek. secondly, I won't ever be dating you, so see how well that works out?

Yes I do. But in my defense I've always dated google-able people b/c of the circles I'm in... So I knew I would find information specific to them. Also, sometimes people try and exaggerate their achievements. Smh.

Perhaps if it was just a regular average guy I wouldn't.

They can google me if they want... I wouldn't be offended or bothered.

Definitely. Google their e-mail address and any screen names you know they use. I've found all sorts of goodies. One guy was on an adult breastfeeding site, another had a house in the hood smaller than my kitchen (which wasn't TOO much of a problem except for the fact that he shared it with his wife), one guy had 2 domestic violence charges, and the WHOPPER was the guy who was directly off of Cell Block B with a rape charge against his girlfriend's 9-year old SON. I logged off of online dating and haven't returned. I've also run across people who have NO ONLINE TRAIL WHATSOEVER. They are bogus as well. Everyone has SOMEthing online. With all of these resources at our fingertips, it's almost neglectful to not at least TRY to see who you're talking to. Peoplefinders, Spokeo, State Criminal Records, etc... Something should come up.

where yall meeting all these criminals

I did. I found out he was interviewed for an article on the NY Times. He blushed when I told him, LOL! Other than that I saw FB and IG. Nothing else.

Anyone ever find themselves online with criminal background? :look:

Not me. But I was friend's with a woman that discovered the guy she was talking to got into some sort of DWI accident and had a breathalyzer installed in his car. Another dude she was talking to she Googled and found out that his dad got him involved in some sort of credit card scam by using his name. He swore his dad did it to him. Though we are no longer friends she is the reason why I Googled my SO though I knew him prior to us dating.

I also look them up on my state's Judiciary Case Search. It shows all pending and past civil and criminal cases.

I google and will pay for background checks when I think it's getting serious enough to introduce to my DD.

Did it with the last BF. He wasnt honest about everything. Was still lazy tho.

I think the craziest thing that I saw after googling was how man who had hit on me was in the middle of this huge international scandal involving the FBI, the diamond industry and one of Africa's most notorious dictators. I think a couple of congressmen are involved too. I can't be positive, but I think he was trying to make me his sugar baby. He offered to build me a clinic in Africa and to finance all my charitable endeavors. :look:

Anyway, I never contacted him but I've been following the scandal over the last couple of months. I'm reading the complaint released by the DOJ right now. Really interesting stuff.

I recently used it to find out the guy I was interested in was with someone.... even though he was pursuing me aggressively. smh

Also, I found out a family members SO has several arrests records on google. Didn't stop her however, she is engaged
