Yes. Whenever I use shampoo with SLS it gives me these big patches of dry scalp that flakes. If I don't use it, it doesn't happen.

I have a friend who has a sulfate allergy.
I have been giving her info from this site and she is using Cantu Shea Butter (along with other black haircare products - she is yt) AND she stopped using sulfate shampoos. She is allergic to sulfites in wine, but had not made a connection with her hair. She has been cutting her hair to 2 inches short for 13 years, due to split ends.
Her hair is growing now.
Not sure if this is relevant to someone without allergies, but I will stay on the safe side. I rarely shampoo anyway. Just cowash and then clarify with baking soda.
When I saw either on Ojon or Wen them talking about Sulfates were used as a De-Greaser to Deep Clean OIL from Motors or Engines of Trucks, Autos, Aircrafts and other Machinery or Something like that, it really concerned me.
It is increasingly being discussed and advertised in the Hair Care Industry, so they know these things are bad but in most cases it's cheap and all about the Profit and Bottom-Line. But with all this "Green" Initiative stuff, we will hear about a whole lot of other things that have been inherently bad for us.
When I do use 'Poo I try to look for non SLS. And I now see, some of the not so expensive brands are even jumping on the SLS Free, No Parabens, Mineral Oils, etc...bandwagon.
So I would say: Yes, there is plenty of truth in it.![]()
Since starting this thread I have switched to mostly non-sulfate poos. I don't know if I really see a big difference.
*shrug*
I don't use shampoo, so it doesn't really matter to me either way.![]()
I use soaps and such with sulfates in them, and I notice that I do need lotion then, while I don't really need it when I use sulfate-free soaps.
Otherwise, I've got no problem with them. I think that they do their job well, and the problem is for some people - they don't need that well of a job to be done to them.
I just started using sulfate free shampoos and I noticed my hair is cleaned but not feeling stripped. I feel that if it doesn't have that stripped feeling that it's not clean. So I end up washing twice.![]()
