That would have been a good Idea, huh???

Before 2006 - I used a one for a while:

ABBA MoistureScentation

My hunt for non SLS poos was one that I had for at least 10 years.

CON was a staple for many years, But I tried Poos that were all not SLS, but they had OTHER Sulfates....

The one I liked was discontinued, so I used ABBA for 2 1/2 yrs.

in 2006 - I went to Castile... and Never looked Back.
:lick:

SJ, you make these soaps sound so delish. Where can I purchase them online?

I've noticed a HUGE difference in my hair since I stopped using sulfates on a regular basis. Prior to reading hair books and hair boards, all my shampoos were sulfate based and i used them weekly. My hair was always dry and had split ends frequently. Now, I only use very diluted clarifying sulfate shampoo every few months.

I use the worst of the worst for shampoos when it comes to clarifying (Pantene Clarity or The Suave daily Clarifying). but it works for my hair so...I use it:look: I dont use them often so I dont worry about damage

I don't think they are 100% bad. They definitely have a place. They are absolutely essential for clarifying and chelating.

For me, with my relaxed and color treated hair-- they are too much for weekly (and twice weekly cleanings). I can get by with a myreth or laureth sulfate if it's backed up with other conditioning agents later on in the formula and followed with a nice moisturizing conditioner. That's why I've pretty much stayed with Kenra. My stuff gotsta be mild.:lachen:

My hair has been so much better since eliminating sulfates. I only use SLS shampoo about once a month or every other month when clarifying, and also when relaxing.

I love your new siggy! Such a pretty lady

I don't think they're horrible if used sparingly. Since I co-wash most of the time anyway, i don't think the 2x monthly use of sulfates will kill my hair. If I were doing it daily though, yes, it might be a problemo.

I have compared sulfate free shampoo with my sulfate shampoos.

And I noticed a difference.

My hair feels more slippery and soft to touch after using the sulfate-free shampoo, while more stripped while using the shampoo with sulfate.

I think you can have healthier hair without using sulfate-free shampoo. But it does make things easier. I DC a lot less now :sekret:

Hey Aggie!:drunk:

You can find Castile Soap at many online locations:

http://www.soapshed.com/store/Castile-Soap-c-288.html

http://www.drbronner.com/

I don't use Dr. Bronners, but many people do! I use Castile that is 100% olive oil soap based. REMEMBER to Dilute! I have a recipe - But I don't want to be accused of plagerism again, so I won't post it here. You can PM me...

HHG!

thx for the link to soapshed...I'm moving closer to castile soap as a poo.
I appreciate all of the information you provide on this board. Please do not change, it would be a disservice to us all...:yep:

Hey sistaslick, you know I started using Kenra because of your reviews on them. It really is quite a miild hair product. Thanks for popping in too. Love the new siggy pics.

I don't think sulfates are "bad" per say but I don't think they should be used often. I've noticed if I reduce my sulfate usage to once a month, I have minimal problems with dryness. Some people can use them more and some probably should avoid them altogether. I think, like most things, it's up to the individual. Everyone's different.

Sulfates are a serious no-no for me. If I do use a shampoo I prefer to use this shampoo by Giovanni Direct that has no sulfates in it. Sulfates are harsh detergents that strip your hair and dry out the shaft. It is also difficult to get sulfate residue out of your hair. They can be less harsh if you dilute your shampoos with purified water and/or coat your hair with a layer of conditioner or oil before you shampoo.

Used very sparingly, I think they have a place. I use 1x a month for a good cleaning. I tried aubrey, castile, and other non-sulfate cleaners, but they all made my hair feel hard and stripped. So, once a month use regular poo (or clarifying poo as needed) and then co-wash/ayurvedic wash the rest of time. My hair is thriving.

I think "reducing" sulfates has helped me and every once in while, I just want a good, sudsy poo . . .

Thanks Eshille!

Honestly - I just don't want to be accused of anything......... It is best that I don't offer some information publicly to avoid any other issues, accusations, or internet bashing.

But - I thank you for your encouragement!!!!!:bighug:

If you would like the shampoo recipe, you may PM me.

take care!

No. I have found a lot of natural shampoos to be way more drying.

Yep, that's hype too as I have found out. "Natural" shampoos use olefin which is just as harsh as sulfates. This is why I stick to castile soap. Read the ingredients. There are only about 10 ingredients and all are truly natural and mild on the hair. It's good for everything too. Now Sam has my curiosity peaked with this other 100% olive oil based castile soap...

Ingredients: Water, Saponfied Organic Coconut Oil*, Saponified Organic Olive Oil*, Organic Glycerin, Organic Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Mentha Arvensis Extract, Organic Mentha Peperita (Peppermint) Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

My hair does not mind sulfates in moderation (clarifying/chelating), and I do notice a difference when using a sulfate as opposed to a non-sulfate poo. So sulfates only come into the equation when I clarify, which is about every month or so. Other than that it's non-sulfate poo. My hair no likey conditioner washes.

Yeah... I stopped using anything with sulfates in it... mineral oil too... that Cholesterol stuff used to be a staple... no mas no mas!

Sulfates are salts that dry out hair... removing them from my life have made all the difference.

I really don't use any shampoos natural or not my hair hates shampoo... ACV rinses have been working for me the past year and a half... also... herb tea rinses...

Sulfates are not only bad for the hair but also bad for your scalp and your body, because it enters your blood stream, and creates toxic problems over a period of time. sulfates are toxic. Please research health articles and books, and health articles on the internet.
Sincerely
Zanna

I voted it for real. Maybe not for other folks, but definitely for me. My hair is getting better now that I'm using a sulfate-free shampoo.

Its a fact for me as well. Before I could never figure out why my hair was always so dry and tangled!! Ever since I stopped using poo, my hair is no longer dry and tangled!! A bonus is that I can now wear my hair out curly!! Seriously!! My hair was always way too dry and frizzy before, but since taking poo out, my hair is soo soft and moisturized and that helps with the dry, fuzzy look that would take over my curls.

Sulfates have a place. . . but that place is not in my life or my home.

Since I've eliminated them not only has my hair thrived but my skin is no longer dry, my daughters ezcema disappeared, and my husband no longer has a dry scalp.

But then again, I don't use any shampoo anymore because if I need to clarify (which is almost never) then generally baking soda does the trick. . .
