I was wondering for sometime time now if order matters... For example for my hair Step # 1 is a water based spritz (water, aloe juice, glycerine) this in my mind is supposed to moisturize and close cuticle #2 is my shea butter mix oils only(shea, coconut oil, 2 ceramide oils, castor, jojoba) supposed to seal moitsure in and #3 my styling gel (recently flaxseed gel).

Do creamy moisturisers/leave-ins really moisturize your hair? eg. a product containing both water and shea butter.. if im applying on dry hair, will the water actually penetrate my hair if everything is mixed up into one cream? Is is wise to replace steps one an two of my process with just one cream product?

Im not sure if im making any sense...:spinning:. Maybe im not saying this right...Hope someone understands the question...

very good question! can't wait to hear from the pros...because I wonder that too. Sometimes, I'm like ...oh shoot....I sealed first and then moisturize and then feel like I have to seal again ....

The question to ask is in which order that I apply my products does it feels best for me. I don't do the whole moisture and seal thing. I just use one product for moisture on the regular and that is curl activator gel. Oil sealing does not work for me. Tried it and after 50-11 different oils it is a negative. Now, my moisturizer does have a PEG lanolin in it, so someone can argue I am technically sealing but that is neither here nor there. As long as your hair is moisturized then it doesn't matter what order you use the products.

All of these "rules" are really not gospel, you just have to do what is best for you....take care :yep:

I think I follow your question.

For me, a creamy moisturizer really does the trick. That may not be what works for your hair. Thats where experimenting helps. The cream I use has aloe vera and other items in the base that helps (and visible) moisturizes for both wet or dry hair.

Thanks ms-gg....its like the more I read and get information... I get confused and complicate things...I was jus tryin to cut down on the no. of step I have to do.. I guess trial and error is key

Thats why buy samples helps! don't waste money on the full bottle until after you sample it, unless the place has an open return policy.

It really just depends on your hair. I've seen some people apply oil right out of the shower then apply products or after the moisturizer, or after the styler. I don't really use oil on wet hair but if I do I do oil under a styler. Just do what your hair likes!

I vote...its depends.

If your talking about moisturizing your hair, yes. You'd want to use something water-based than oil-based after. This a serum or gel on top. It you do oil then gel then water base, you are guaranteed for your hair not to feel moist but oily and hard. LOL, that is not a good feeling.

If your talking about cleansing the hair, it depends. Some people condition then shampoo. Others shampoo then condition. It depends on how your hair responds to shampoo. For those the condition then shampoo, its typically because shampoo is too drying.

I normally apply products to my wet hair in a particular way. Leave in is applied first and any serums or oils last to help seal the leave in.

Thanks for all the responses ladies :yep:... I think I will stick with my 3 step system for now... its been working and I love the results thus far. I just cant help but feel like there is some secret technique out there:spinning:

Sticking with what already works for your beautiful hair,
:gorgeous:

Added: I follow similar order described in OP, when I don't I notice a difference.

I typically use one product at a time. My own formula hair butter after wash and condition. Or leave in conditioner on dry hair. I don't pile on or layer products - just personal preference. You have to do what works for you.

Altering order of application does alter the final product FOR ME. I play around with different combos and orders though.

It depends on your hair, lifestyle, and maybe the climate you live in. I live in Southern California, which can be dry and I use my aloe vera/water/glycerin mix along with HE LTR leave-in, and either avocado, brahmi, or EVOO to moisturize and seal my hair. So far, so good.

you use avocado fresh off the seed as a daily moisturizer?::look:

Good thread OP,I think it does matter. Isn't it about the size of the molecules? E.g water molecules are smaller than oil molecules therefore penetrate the strand easier. On wet/damp hair I just apply my ors moisturizing lotion followed by my whipped shea butter and then coconut oil.

There is something about the chicoro method which explains it I think. Could some one find it please or explain it. I think its where you have a water based moisturizer followed by an oil based moisturiser. *waits on an expert*

totally OT EllePixie ...I'm luving ur signature pic...very pretty...

Now back to the topic..depends on ur hair and what style ur tryin to acheive..

Ever since I incorporated Chicoro's sealing method (leave-in, oil, THEN emulsifier, such as shea butter) my hair that is usually dry as the sahara desert :egypt: retains moisture like crazy. It works on all of my daughters as well. Doesn't matter what kind of oils or butters I use, it just works!

I don't know and don't care to experiment. It just makes sense for me to use a moisturizer and then seal because oil is impermeable so it blocks or seals in what's underneath. But some can use a sealer only or a sealer first and then moisturizer and it works fine for them. So whatever works, do it. If it doesn't experiment with the different combinations
