there's a thin line between being open minded and compromising your beliefs? Can you not be compromising and still be open minded?

I think open minded is a term that is still vague and misleading. I think it is best to be knowledgeable about what you believe. And if what you believe you also accept as the truth then you will see other information that goes against your beliefs as false. Then there is no room for opening your mind to that. Example, if you believe stealing is wrong you can not open your mind to any angle that trys to justify it. If the information does not contridict what you believe to be true and causes you never to go against your beliefs it is simply new information to research and expand your knowledge base.

I have always seen people use the statement of being open minded to try and compromise something. There is nothing wrong with learning just don't fall for the " be more open minded trap"

I do believe there is a very thin almost invisible line between open mindedness and compromising your beliefs. I try to have an open mind when it comes to listening to what others have to say. But I stand firm in what I believe if their opinion on something differs from what Christ wants for my life. It can be difficult balancing these two but I pray to God to keep me grounded in my beliefs.

Amazing topic, and I think the about is a perfect explaination. Opening your mind just involves taking in information if that information goes against what I believe I immediately "close my mind" I don't indulge people in their little arguments as to why some sin is "alright" or that God "doesn't mind". I also think the whole term "closeminded" gained an incalculable amount of momentum due to the "hippies" who wanted to challenge established ways of thinking and went about labeling those who didn't agree before people could even open their mouths about why they didn't agree.

When it comes to Christians we are always labeled as close minded because we hold to certain indelable truths. But the very same people who call us closeminded don't say the same things about Scientists who insists that an amazing creature like a human just "happened" you can't tell them that a perfectly designed biological being has a designer.

There's a very thin-line. Open-mindedness, in my experience, is a new modern day culture. Unfortunately, God is not a democratic leader, He is a dictator. What He says goes. I think that when I look at Jesus' life, he was very compassionate, but still rebuked sin.

When I look at my own life, I mostly become "open-minded" out of peer pressure. I have a close friend whom I had been friends with for a whole year before I found out that he's gay. I really didn't know where to draw the line as far as being his friend and still trying to minister to him. Instead of drawing him to Christ, I got sucked into his world. I ended up going to gay bars and clubs with him, mingling with his boyfriends, and listening to very graphic conversations. I wanted him to continue to accept me and compromised my own values in the long run.

This is so true. I had a similar experience in college with people "exploring their sexuality" and things of that nature. Although I wasn't a part of it, I wasn't strong enough in my beliefs to take a definite stance against it or speak out against it.

I agree with Vintagecoilylocks & the other ladies.
Since I have been set apart, I've been saying that I couldn't care less if I never fit in again. I believe in Black & White. There is very little to no gray, in my opinion.

I think that as long as you dont accept wrong then you are okay. I wont condemn anyone for their wrong doings or anit-christian behavior; God is the only judge BUT I will not cater to the ways of it. Just an example (I hope Im not attacked because of this...) the bible does not approve of homosexuality. I have a gay sister. She fully knows I dont approve of her lifestyle but I love her the same. Im not homophobic and I dont judge her or nay of her friends because of what they choose to do. They know my stance on it an thats that.

Good point about your sister, because in the world the one person who should love her is you. I wish I had the guts to tell people I love in my life that I don't approve of what they do and still love tham; not just pretend that it's okay with me.
