everytime you exercise? I wouldnt mind doing it because I need the extra moisture but my hair is in cornrows and this is my main style. I am trying to exercise almost everyday. If I had a relaxer I wouldn't mind but washing my natural hair everyday would be too much for me. So is it really necessary?

I think so because all that sweat in your head turns into salt and your hair will turn very hard and brittle. I know from experience. But I know what you mean about washing natural hair, I had it at one time and I couldn't IMAGINE washing it everyday. I had to prepare myself mentally before I washed it cause it took so much energy.

I work out every other day. I wash my hair one-two times a week, and I don't have any problems.

In the past, I did have a problem with the salt drying my hair out and causing a ton of shedding. The key for me is making sure my scalp is moisturized with jojoba oil or WGO BEFORE the workout. Since I started this, I haven't had any problems with shedding, breakage, or hard hair as a result of working out.

I will not, I repeat, will NOT halt my workouts or skip workouts for the sake of being vain. My health and well-being is far more important than a hairstyle will ever be.

Just me...:look:

Back before I discovered this site (and learned how to do my hair between salon appoinments) I used to exercise 3 to 4 days a week and wouldn't get it washed until my next appointement, which was usually a whole 'nother week. Although the sweat and salt make for a nasty build-up, I don't think my hair suffered much. I didn't have breakage or any of the things you might think I would have. Probably because I wore it up in french rolls constantly. I wash more frequently (once a week and no more) since I've been a member here. I think LHCF saved me from sweaty pin-ups.

I exercise daily and don't have problems with my hair, although I'm not natural. For one thing, my head doesn't get all sweaty. I make sure I have cool air blowing on me while on my treadmill and yoga doesn't build up sweat. I wash my hair 2x each week.

Have you tried just rinsing your hair after working out, just to rinse away the sweat? You wouldn't have to take the cornrows down. Even rinsing after every two workouts should do the trick.

aww man it just seems like i can't win. i was trying to exercise to stimulate some growth and it seems that it will make my hair dryer. my hair is already very coarse= brillo pad, very hard. but I apply s curl and braid spray every day just to soften it off.

For me its imperative I wash mine after sweating during a workout. The sodium excreted in the sweat kills my hair. Its almost equivalent to spraying salt water in your hair and not washing it or swimming in the ocean and not washing it. Its a dry, sticky, tangled mess that's likely to break.

My head sweats a lot when I work out so rinse my hair. A rinse usually works fine, no need to scrub it or anything, and then I follow up with Nexxus ensure or porosity control, rinse that out after a couple of minutes and be done with it.

Some people as noted don't rinse after every workout so I won't say its a necessity. My main reason for doing it is because I really hate having a sweaty head.

well i used 2 do porfessional dance for 2 years, and i never wshed my hair only weekly, and idanced every day of the week. my hair broke as it grew!!!!

I just think some people's hair (mine, anyway) have a higher tolerance for ickyness than others. The more i work out, the faster the hair grows.

*contemplates going to the gym*

I know EXACTLY what you mean! I have to prepare myself mentally before I do my hair each week.

It would seem having natural hair would make it easy to wash every day. When I wear my hair out, I do daily coditioner washes. I sometimes just rinse the sweat out of my hair in the gym shower and baby it latter in the day.

When my hair is twisted, I wash it weekly.
