DIY Greek Yogurt DC Review (Pic Heavy)

I tried this, but I used Avocado's in the mixture. My hair was so ridiculously dry. I may it again with just the yogurt and see what happens...

So I tried it Sunday after church. My mixture seemed too runny or something & it didnt coat my hair like Ms_CoCo37. Maybe I will try it again & make double the amount. It also didnt detangle it just felt really tangled & my hair kind of stuck 2 gether. Maybe I should try something else with it? Any suggestions ladies?

I tried this DC this weekend and I'm in love. It made my hair shine and extremely soft. I used 10% yogurt and ACV (no EOs) and kept it on for maybe 90 minutes. I love the results. My hair before DCing was the result of a week old twistout (slept on) and I didn't have to detangles not one knot!!! (I didn't dare to detangle beforehand:look:)

I also notice that my twistout today is hanging down instead of standing tall. I'm not sure how to explain or even sure if the DC caused it but last week I did the exact same thing (w/o the yogurt DC) and got this:
twist out.jpg
This week with the same technique + yogurt DC I got this:
hair2.jpg
(as far as I know I twisted it the same both times)

I like them both but I see/feel a difference.

HTH someone!

dollface0023, Try the above recipe and let me know if your hair still feels dry. The only thing I deviated from as far as the recipe, is that I added olive oil to the mixture.

@HairPleezeGrow, Did you use greek or regular yogurt? Also, how many spoonfuls of yogurt did you use? I know the consistency of greek yogurt is much thicker than regular. Maybe try adding a little olive oil to the mix. I know I added it because I only had nonfat yogurt instead of whole fat or 2%.

I'm surprised it didn't detangle for you. I just did the same treatment on DD this evening and her knots and kinks just melted away. She had very little shedding when I combed the leave-in conditioner in. Did you remember to rinse and condition in sections?

@kittenz, your hair looks great! I can definitely see the difference in how your curls are laying in the second pic. I'm glad it worked for you.

Like I mentioned earlier, I decided to try the same treatment on DD, and I got the same fabulous results. I'll be sure to post a few pix of her hair. BTW, she's also natural.

@FindingMe, :lachen::lachen::lachen:I don't know if I would give myself wig status, but I'm definitely happy I tried it.:yep: Let me know if you decide to.

@Lucky's Mom, I love greek yogurt too, and I feel the same way you do about parting with it for your hair. I actually had three large containers of it in the fridge. I noticed that one of the containers had expired. It was then, that I remembered my boss telling me that yogurt can still be eaten after the expiration date. Of course I was like.:nono: But I figured it couldn't hurt to use it as a conditioner.

I said all of that to say, if you see that some of your yogurt is/or is about to expire, instead of throwing it out...use it as a conditioner.

I'll be back in a few to post pix of DD's hair!

Yogurt lasts 3 days in my fridge. :lachen:

Ms_CoCo37 Thank you!! And thanks for starting this thread. I wanted to try the mix but your results encouraged me to do it sooner:grin:.

Man! i wish I had some type of fragrance though, that mess was funky! :lachen: I'll be ordering some EOs for my next round:spinning:

Ms_CoCo37 yes maam I used greek yogurt & also added in the olive oil. I used two heaping spoonfuls (2 tbsp but little more). I did rinse & then f/u with my WEN GP. I will give it another try this weekend and maybe add more yogurt than the ACV.

Okay, here are the results of the yogurt DC on DD's hair:

This is he hair after rinsing and conditioning (product free):

Sheesh! I really need to invest in a camera, because my iPhone just doesn't do the pix any justice.:ohwell:

The only thing that I changed is that I oiled her scalp with warm olive oil prior to applying the DC (she had some major dandruff going on). As far as changes made to the DC, I used peppermint oil instead of the lavendar. That's it!

All in all, DD loves her hair! She's been cracking her neck while whipping it back and forth.:look:

HairPleezeGrow, definitely add more yogurt to the mixture, and also, the olive oil won't be necessary if you have the whole fat or 2% greek yogurt. Tweak it to your needs.:yep:

So I couldnt wait til this weekend to re-try. I must say it was way better than the first time. I added more yogurt & left in for 30 minutes. When I rinsed out & deep conditioned for another 30 min my hair felt so good. And there was hardly any shed hair. My hair usually sheds quite a bit daily and I only had like 5 hairs!

HairPleezeGrow, I'm so glad it worked for you the second time around.

Like I said before, you have to tweak it to fit your hair needs. Be careful that you don't do the treatment too often. You don't want to have a protein overload.

I'll be doing this treatment twice a month (every other week).:yep:
