Thanks Foxy...would you happen to know the name of the popular towel that is supposed to be tre absorbant?

Thanks for the conditioner tip. I can't wait to try this method on my next wash.

Super abosrbant towels are also sold at Bed Bath & Beyond. They had 1 or 2 brands with different sizes. Mine was by Aquis. I think it was 14.99 regular price and it is medium sized towel.

i do this also for my co washes. slap on some moisturing co on dry hair for half hr and then wash it out... it works alot better than on wet hair.

I would rather do this on towel dried hair. And yes, its advisable to use microfiber towels. i got mine on ebay. 2 for 9.98. very cheap

Another very absorbent towel is by aquis - I have seen them at Bath and Body Works. Frederick Fekkai has one in his line of products -- the last time I checked it was @ $27. HTH

This is what I have. I have had it for years....they sell these type at CVS (under another name), not sure how much but probably no more than $10. They absorb very well and are easy to wear around the house.

I use the turbie twist (with a plastic cap) for deep condtioning when I dont feel like using my bonnet dryer...it keeps the condtioner from running down my neck.

In the newest SELF magazine, I read that hair reaps more of the benefits of a deep conditioner if you apply it to dry hair. The theory is, when your hair is wet or damp, it will absorb less of the deep conditioner. I tried it last night and I think it does work pretty well. Has anyone else tried this?

Hey Caramela

I do this all of the time! I actually *warm* the conditioner in the microwave then apply it to *dry* hair. Did this throughout my 18 mth transition & even now!

There's something about applying the *warmed* conditioner on *dry* hair... it literally melts right into my hair!

This sounds interesting I may have to try it soon I have some Aubrey GPB.
Big Lots has the microfiber towel for $2.99 I bought a dozen.

I guess you have to look at your hair like a sponge...However, (correct me if I am wrong) doesn't a sponge absorb more when it is damp....other than dry.

i dont think so....i mean, strictly speaking of sponges....if its dry, it will absorb more than if its wet or damp because in order for it to be damp it has to have already absorbed something...maybe it'll absorb quicker if its damp, but not more...

i think. :scratchch:

I am confused what method is Elle talking about like a pre-treatment or a wash and then dry hair and then put conditioner on???

My hair is a dry mess right now and I plan to wash tomorrow. I'm going to try this method, with Peachtree's touch (warming the conditioner up) RIGHT NOW!

warm deep conditioner is soooo soothing!!

Haha silly me left it in the microwave too long so it was like steamy soup when I took it out. I sat it on the air conditioner to thicken back up, it was still pretty warm though. I applied the conditioner as I took down each cornrow, threw on a plastic cap and scarf on top of that for bed.

bump for which method!!!
its a deep conditioner...not necessarily before a shampoo...that is done on dry hair.

generally we do it on damp hair after having shampoo'd....

So can someone walk me through the steps since I am challenged.

Option 1
as pre shampoo treatment, put conditioner on your hair first than later wash with shampoo, then do a deep conditioner and then follow up with leave in and all the other stuff.

Option 2

Shampoo your hair than let it air dry and then add in conditioner (warm conditioner is another option) than wash it out and then add in your leave in.

I've done this and I end up using a lot of conditioner. I feel like its a waste. Wouldn't you think that a wet sponge is more absorbent than a dry one?

I'd actually say that a dry sponge is more absorbent than a wet one. Try wiping up liquid with a drenching wet. When you remove the sponge, there's still a lot of liquid there. I've tried this with my AO conditioner once and so far I haven't noticed too much of a difference. I'll try it some more to see how I like it. The only problem is that it just requires the use of so much conditioner.

this is the only way i do it....i put whatever condtioner im using on my dry hair and let it seap in....then i rinse, shampoo, ACV, condition.....

yup, me too! I call it "pre-condition" I love doing it this way. I haven't really noticed a difference in how my hair fells though. I still do it after a low poo at times, but I towel dry my hair to soak up all the water first.

okay, option 1 should be:
dry hair....add whatever deep conditioner you use....let it be in your hair however long you want...then rinse

option 2 (also known as pre-treatment):
dry hair...deep condition....shampoo....regular condition....

i think!

Mmhmm, so do I. The last time I did this I kept the conditioner on overnight and the turbie twist stayed on all night. I was surprised.

i burnt my scalp with microwaved deep conditioner. :lachen: . I wont give up though!

Goodness, just *nuke* it in the microwave...I do 10 seconds at a time (depending upon how much conditioner I'm using)... once I reach the *right* temp, then I'll apply ;)

Nope, a sponge can only hold water/liquid up to a limit, so if it's aready wet, then there's a limited amount of left that absorb.

Same with paper towel...if you are cleaning up a spill, once it's absorbed what its can, you have to grab a new sheet to get the rest up because the other sheet is fully saturated and cannot absorb anything else.
