December 2019: Hits & Misses

MISSES:

Follicle Care Almond and Honey Deep Conditioner - it is supposed to be a protein treatment and it is but it is so strong that it started to break the ends of my hair. So now I can't use any of it anymore.

The scent of all Follicle Care deep conditioners whether moisture or protein - all smell the same to me and that's disturbing because it is not a scent that I like. I can't really describe it either - I just know I hate it.

The only one that's remotely acceptable is the Rose Clay DC in this line. It actually smells like roses so I'll keep using this one until it's all finished.

A Major Hit:

Ladies, that Amika Triple Rx Mask now known as Amika Kure Intense Repair Mask (on the site www.loveamika.com) is the bomb.com just like saludable84 said. It went on like silk and rinsed out leaving my hair still feeling like silk. A-May-Zing!!!

It is definitely a repurchase item for sure. It's expensive but worth every penny plus a little goes a very long way.

Can you get someone in the US to buy it and ship it to you? It's super cheap at TJ Maxx, I assume Marshalls too.

4Bellenaturelle Pumpkin Molasses Brulee. Very thick and dry. No slip. It pulled my hair out. I contacted the seller. I think this is a loss.

ETA: She offered me another conditioner or a refund. I opted for the Blueberry conditioner. Good customer service.
The pumpkin one is a protein dc

Hit: Cantu bonnet - the ethnic design is really nice. The band is nice and thick. And the material is thinner and breathes better so I don't sweat at night. I plan to throw out my others and replace them with these.

Miss: Sealing but with too much product making my hair greasy. Need to figure this out.

I'm glad you mentioned these, I always see these in the store and wondered about them. I'll keep them in mind.

Freaking miss! Still no deliveries from Black Friday sales for the only hair companies I ordered from, Natur-all and SheScentIt!!

At least Natur-all sent a tracking number last week (even tho the package still hasn’t even been dropped off to the post office). It’s radio silence at Shescentit.

Oh wow, thank you for this information! I have not received this email. I double checked and saw that after I placed the order, I was sent the confirmation of the orders I purchased so I don't know why it hasn't been sent to me.

Miss:
Mielles Babassu DC. I loved my first jar. These two jars from the BF sale are a thinner consistency and don't smell the same. Slip was lack luster and my hair felt meh after rinsing out. I almost called quits on it during wash day and used my Briogeo DC.

Mielle recently reformulated some of their products. I don’t think they announced the changes. If you compare the old and new labels, you will see the difference. The original leave in conditioner and the avocado hair milk are a different formula.

Shame. This was a staple DC for me. At $10 (I got two jars for $5 each), if I try it again and it still sucks I'm pitching it. A DC I have to struggle with to detanlge has no room in my stash.

And the edge control. I posted about it in another thread with comparison photos. A real shame, I dropped the entire line.

Oh wow, This was one of my staples. I didn't get any of them this year though since I'm trying to reduce my stash. Oh well, on to the next one.

Potential Hit:

Nairobi Prota-Sil Reconstructor - I just used this one for the first time today. It is a thick, creamy reconstructor that went on pretty good but as I worked it through my hair, I watched my hair haul up to half it's length. It was pretty tight. I thought it was a medium strength protein, but it behaved like a hardcore one to me.

After washing it out, my hair was still very tightly curled up and felt slightly hard as well. I said to myself "Okay here it goes, this looks like it will be trouble softening this baby back up" and sure enough, it was.

I proceeded to use Nairobi Humecta-Sil (which is actually a Hit by the way), and it did nothing to soften my hair to the degree my comb would effortlessly detangle my hair.

I feel I may have to use my trusted Dudley's Cream Protein Moisture Conditioner in the morning to get the softness back in. That always softens my hair up really well after a hardcore protein treatment. By the way, I think I may need to get another tub of this one as a back-up. I cannot afford to run out of it since I have quite a bit of strong protein conditioners to use up. I wonder what the Dudley's Hair Rebuilder is like :scratchchin: - I may have to get that one as well when I go out to make my Dudley's product purchase.

I must say though that it did greatly minimize breakage. My hair feels really really strong but a little hard unfortunately. I will work on moisturizing it over the next day or two. I wished I had used my Dudley's Cream Protein afterwards - next time I guess.

As an after-thought - I will use less of the Nairobi Prota-Sil next wash using it. I may have been a little heavy handed this time around.

Hits

PJN Rosemary Ginger Ayurvedic Serum, lovely tingly and good enough to pull debris out of my hair while finger detangling

PJN Rice Water Activated Mint Cleanser, very sudsing, cleaned my scalp and could detangle slightly with the suds. Second time using ,still liking

Creole Belle Organics Praline & Cream Hair/Skin Butter, smells great, left a nice sheen and weighed my hair down slightly , which I needed after that heat yesterday.

Neither a hit nor a miss right now

Prismax Hair Botox treatment, went on smooth ,creamy, hair felt okay after being heated for 20 minutes. I'll keep an eye out on my hair for the next 6 weeks and see if I want to do another one)
