Cowashers...How Often Do You Clarify?

I would do a poll, but I'm lazy.

I'm trying to set a schedule for clarifying. I currently cowash everyday, but I'm debating between clarifying every two weeks or once a month.

So how often do you clarify?

Instead of having a set schedule, pay close attention to your hair...how it feels (heavy or light), how it looks (dull or shiny), your scalp (full of buildup or clear of buildup) and use that as your guide to how often you need to clarify. If you are really in tune with your hair's overall health, you will know when it's time to clarify.

Yes, the thing is that I use a leave-in daily and seal with shea butter and oil twice a daily.

Plus, I want to clarify in conjuction with protein treatments.

I think that once a month is my best bet. I will shampoo once a week and see how that goes.

I don't clarify but I use shampoo too, at least once a week but more often twice. I don't use any products (not braid-sprays, styling products, etc) after washing so build-up that needs clarifying has never been a problem.

ITA. This is the route I go.

I chelate when I feel the conditioner is penetrating. I can feel the build up on my hair. I co-wash (2-3 times a week) and then wash with a sulfate-free cleansing cream once a week, so it's necessary for me to clarify more often especially because I use cones.

Is it safe to clarify and then use a moderate protein conditioner on your hair the same wash day? Would it make the protein treatment and your conditioners work better?

I always follow up with a good MOISTURIZING shampoo and conditioner after I clarify, but maybe the protein treatment in addition to it may be too much?

What do you ladies think?

This is why I asked. I plan to use a reconstructor every 2 weeks, and I wanted to clarify in conjunction with the protein treatement.

I don't think that it's too much because you are wiping the slate clean, thus increasing the effectiveness of the protein treatment and moisturizing DC, respectively.

I usually clarify once a month. Sometimes twice a month if my hair feels weighed down and gunky

I don't really clarify but I do use shampoo every other day..

wow, really?! may I ask if your hair gets dry from using it that often? I am really thinking that I need to do the same things b/c my hair gets so sweaty after my workouts and when I cw I am just wondering if it is really what my hair needs.

I don't clarify. I do the same thing, wash/condition every other day because my hair is wet with sweat from my morning workout. (I co-wash on days I don't use shampoo) My scalp is less flaky and my hair is the most moisturized and healthiest than it's ever been since I started doing this.

I use LUSH and Aubrey Organics products. My hair likes more natural and organic products with this heavy duty wash/condition schedule, which is probably why I don't get as much buildup.

Hi ladies...

i deep condition on dry hair and then i usually wash it out, shampoo with CON and go. I was thinking it might be time for me to clarify but can I clarify after the conditioner is on my hair. Does the clarifying shampoo negate or wipe away all the effects of the conditioner?

Hi ladies... Newbie here....besides my original question: (see below)

i forgot to ask how do you really know if you need to clarify?

I don't have a set time to clarify, I just do it when I notice buildup on my scalp. Uusally it's once every 2-3 months. I cowash twice a week and then when I need to clarify I shampoo with CON Red Label and then do and ACV rinse =) works like a charm.

I chelate every fortnight with a non sulfate chelating poo. Although I ill be switching to once a month, now that I am using a vedic homemade, non sulfate poo and powders 2x a week.

I LOVE chelating it makes my DC penetrate so much better. I instantly feel the difference.
