Cornrows for natural transition

Who has used cornrows as a transitional style to grow out their hair?

I got my hair cornrowed yesterday and intend on getting it redone every two weeks to aid in growing out my texturizer.

Years back I used individual braids to growout my relaxer, but think I'm going to try the cornrows since they don't take as long.

How long did you keep cornrows in your hair?

Did you wash in between?

Did your hairline suffer?

What products did you use for scalp and cornrowed hair?

What did you put on your hair while sleeping? (Last night I wore a doo rag and then put a plastic cap on top of that and over the rest of the hanging braids).

Anything else useful?

Thanks!

I have been using cornrows to grow out my hair (under my lacefront) and i am really liking it :D

I keep my cornrows no longer than 2 weeks, i am actually getting them redone in about an hour.

I definitely wash between because i work out and also i want to keep my scalp clean. I was about every 2 days...the first wash i use conditioner only and the second i use diluted shampoo.

My hairline seems fine. the girl that braids my hair doesnt do it tight and doesnt pull hard as she is braiding. So no "wow i hear my hair snapping off" sounds.

I have been spraying my braids with Giovanni Pro-fusion right after i wash to keep the moisture levels up. When its dry i mist with Aveda's Brilliant Damage control at night before i go to sleep.

I sleep in a satin scarf at night.

Anything else useful...i read on this board that someone was using a nylon cap while washing their cornrows so that their hair stays neat longer...not sure if that makes sense.

I took my cornrows out yesterday, combed my hair as i went along, and got in the shower. My hair was moisturized well so there was no matting or tangling. All the hair that i normally shed came out so i had a hair ball in the shower but i noticed that my hair is now thicker and longer. So i am happy

Atlien--thanks for the post. good regimen. i plan on keeping mine in for 2 weeks also. glad to hear that they are working well for you. and yes, the nylon washing does make sense. i may try that. how long have you been wearing the cornrows--on and off for months? thanks again.

anyone else?
