which is better at preventing/reducing shedding? could i just buy some garlic oil and add it to my conditioners instead of buying alter ego? i see posts about that condish but since hair growth/ect is an internal process wouldn't it be more beneficial to consume the garlic?

tia ladies :)

I like the Alter Ego garlic conditioner, but honestly I think taking garlic pills might speed up the process. I don't have a problem with shedding so I'll let the other ladies chime in.

Anyone Else, I have always wondered this as well, Thank You BostonMaria, I agree with You, I would believe anything internal would give better results, but again, I'm not sure, maybe someone here has tried both and can chime in with Her experience.

I believe that consuming the garlic would be MUCH better! Using topical aids may assist with breakage/shedding/shine, etc. But it all starts on the inside......"You are what you eat." Therefore when you have the right nutrients your hair should start off being healthy. Then applying the topical aids should assist in the retention (in addition to the nutrients). Just My 2 cents:yep:

I had excessive shedding and Alter Ego did wonders to stop my shedding. I had previously tried consuming raw garlic (and in pretty good quantities) and my shedding wasn't affected. I haven't tried the garlic tablets so I really can't really expand on their effectiveness. After I finish with the conditioner I am going to try adding oil to my regular conditioners but if that doesn't work I will not hesitate to go back to Alter Ego as a little goes a long way and to me, it's worth the money.

Internal intake is always best, IMHO. After all, shedding (as opposed to breakage) is coming from internal processes. However, like w/ anything, reseach before you take it. Garlic is great, but too much of anything ain't good for nothing!

You can try both way and judge for yourself what works better for you.

There a great thread here about adding garlic powder to your condish on the cheap. Look it up. It's work a try, IMHO. I plan to try it myself.

I have done both the pill and the garlic powder in my condish. I like them both. The garlic powder works great and will stop breakage dead in it's track. Just make sure you wash it out good and condish after you wash it out with a condish that has a good scent to it and do your leave-In. The pills work but will take a few days maybe weeks to get things under control, but once in your system you are good to go, plus the garlic pills are good for your over all health and it will not hurt you, but as I always say " what works for me may not work for others" just try both and see which one you like best. HTH:yep:

I do both.

I started consuming the pills, Garlinase when my daughter was about 8 mths, because I had excessive shedding and the castor oil alone wasn't working.

At the same time I bought Queen Helene's garlic shampoo. That pretty much stopped it in it's tracks the first time I used it, and by the time the bottle was done my shedding had stopped completely. But I also finished the pills at the same time.

My shedding went from a ziploc bag full, to a handful then down to a few strands in the comb.

When the shampoo was finished, I didn't buy another one for 2-3 wks, the shedding started up again. :wallbash:

I am now back on the shampoo and taking Kyolic garlic pills.

Queen helene also has the garlic conditioner, but I couldn't find at the bss, only on amazon.

I get alter ego treatments when I go to the Dominican salons. It works, just be consistent.

Someone from this site reported that garlic was a natural blood thinner so be mindful of how this may impact your health before you take it~

I don't know if any of you recall the story of the Delaney sisters. They wrote the book "Having Our Say" and there was a made for TV movie produced about them. Well, they lived to be over 100 and one of their secrets was a clove of garlic a day. It obviously didn't kill them, so I think we may be safe. :)

Eating once clove of garlic a day can't do any harm. I always cook with garlic and not just one either lol! Not sure about the tablets...

I have garlic pills that I need to finish..after that I will try just natural garlic clove

I also take Iron...lack of iron can cause shedding and the majority of women are iron deficient and don't know it
